Understanding the DE Program in Lexington One
Students are able to take college courses from our approved postsecondary partners tuition free in high school, and earn both college and high school credits. Popular DE courses are linked here DE Approved Courses Chart (2025-2026)
Most DE courses are weighted the same as AP courses in the UGP, which is on a 6.0 scale.
Students must take at least two DE courses each semester from the same postsecondary partner to qualify for free lottery tuition.
Students and families are responsible for textbook purchases or any other fees outside of tuition for a DE course.
Lottery Tuition Assistance which pays for DE courses, is a separate scholarship program from the HOPE/LIFE scholarship. Enrolling in DE courses in high school does not start a student's HOPE/LIFE "clock".
How to qualify for the Lexington One DE Program
Students need permission from their high school counselor.
Students must be a South Carolina resident.
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Students must be in 11th or 12th grade.
Some Things to Consider Before Participating in the Lexington One DE Program
Students who take DE courses are establishing a permanent college transcript. The college transcript will be required by future postsecondary institutions for review and can affect college admission decisions. The student's college transcript can also affect state scholarship awards.
Students who take DE courses are considered college students and their academic information is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Communication regarding the student's academic performance in the course, including grades, cannot be shared with parents during the semester.
DE courses are college courses. Students will be exposed to the same academic rigor as if they were taking the course at a college campus after high school.
DE courses follow the course description designated by the associated organization/institution and the content of the course must adhere to those requirements. By enrolling in this course, families and students understand that the course materials may include content that is beyond what is authorized by SC state standards and/or regulation.
In order for DE courses to transfer to other colleges and universities, students typically must earn a C or better in their DE courses. Grades below a C are generally not transferable. Some schools or majors may have higher transferability thresholds.
504/IEP/ILAP accommodations do not automatically follow the student to their DE courses. Students must contact the disability services at the college and request accommodations. Postsecondary accommodations may be different from high school accommodations.
Students who are considering taking an online DE course must possess strong computer literacy skills, as well as organizational and self-advocacy skills. Students must have enough time in their schedules to complete online coursework.
Re-test policies for dual credit courses are determined by the partner college/university, not Lexington County School District One.

MTC Disability Services
Any student seeking accommodations must register with our Disability Services Office. (Details on how to register are provided below.)
It is the student’s responsibility to self-disclose as a student with a disability and to request accommodations through MTC’s Disability Services. A student’s initial request for accommodations should preferably occur prior to the beginning of a program or course, but can be requested at any time. Accommodations are not retroactive.
The request for accommodations is an interactive process that occurs between the student and the staff of Disability Services. There are three steps to the process:
Student is to submit both the Disability Services Intake Form and documentation of disability (i.e. Formal Psychological-Educational Evaluation, Medical Evaluation/Assessment, Individualized Educational Plan, 504 Documentation, Re-evaluation or Disability Services Standard Documentation Form) in one email to disability@midlandstech.edu. On the Disability Services Intake Form, students will need to list parent name beside “Other” in Release of Information section if needed.
Staff will review submitted information and contact the student to request additional documentation if needed or to schedule a disability services initial interview. Initial interviews are scheduled once a student is registered for courses.
Students will then complete a disability services initial interview with a staff member. The interview is an opportunity for the student and staff to discuss the student’s history, barriers, and how those barriers impact school, and potential accommodations to eliminate those barriers. The staff will either approve or deny accommodations. If approved, staff will review specific accommodations, explaining policies and procedures, discussing rights and responsibilities of the student and the college, and reviewing the Faculty Notification Process (accommodation email that is sent to faculty).
Any questions regarding Disability Services at MTC can be directed to disability@midlandstech.edu or 803-822-3505.
USC Sumter Disability Services
Students who have been accepted to the university and require access to disability-related accommodations and support will need to officially register with the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC). Click here for more information.
Students must submit an application(apply) and supportive documentation to SDRC for the coordination and approval of accommodations.
You should consider applying if you:
have been admitted as a student to the University of South Carolina-Columbia campus
have a documented disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities
had an IEP, 504, or similar accommodations plan in high school
are a client of Vocational Rehabilitation, Commission for the Blind, or other similar agency
were previously registered with disability services at another college, university, or other educationl setting.
You can register with the center at any time.
Registration is not limited to the beginning of a semester, however, you cannot register retroactively for grades during a previous semester.
Your application cannot be reviewed until the SDRC has both your completed application and qualifying documentation. The application process is NOT completed immediately and can take at least 2-3 weeks to complete so please begin the process as early as possible.
**Note: During high volume times such as late summer, pre-midterms, or pre-finals, etc... may result in longer processing and orientation scheduling times**
Decisions regarding disability-specific accommodations are made on a case by case basis. Review the accommodations that are most often provided.
Last day to withdraw without a grade of "WF" for Fall '25:
Friday, October 17, 2025
To withdraw from a DE course, please reach out to your school counselor.
Be aware of the Lexington One withdrawal practice below.
With the first day of enrollment as the baseline, students who withdraw from a dual enrollment course
within 45 school days will do so without penalty. A W/WP will be awarded on the transcripts.
Students who withdraw from a dual enrollment course after the specified time of 45 school days without
administrative approval, shall be assigned a WF/50 on the high school transcript. The college/university may assign a W on the college transcript at their discretion.
Withdrawing from one course: If you withdraw from one DE course now or earn a D in your DE course, you will have a conversation with your assistant principal or designee to determine if you can participate in the DE program next semester.
Withdrawing from two or more courses: If you withdraw from two or more DE courses, withdraw from a DE course for non-attendance, or earn an F in a DE course, you cannot take a DE course the following semester. To return to the DE program you and your parent/guardian must have a conversation with your counselor and assistant principal or designee.
