Review of PSAT Results

Wednesday, January 12, 2022

Time: 6:30 PM

Location: School Cafeteria

This presentation will be for our select 8th grade students who completed the PSAT this fall.

We will be distributing students’ PSAT scores and their test books as well as explain what their scores mean!

Test Day Instructions

If you register to take the PSAT this school year, please be at the school by 8:05 on Wednesday, October 13th. Check in with your homeroom teacher first, and they will tell you which test room you are to report to. You will need to bring two #2 pencils (not mechanical ones) and your lunch (if you are planning to bring it). We will eat lunch at 12:30 following the test. Please email me at kmcdonald@lex2.org if you have any additional questions.

Some things to know:

You’ll need to turn off all electronic devices during the test and even during breaks. This includes cellphones. Be sure to turn off your watch alarm, if you have one. Why? Test centers are serious about security and quiet, so prohibited devices—which include cellphones, tablets, and MP3 players—must be turned off and put under your desk. Better yet: Leave them at home. We have your parents'/guardians' numbers.

The test is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. That does not include the distribution of the materials, breaks, etc.

I will announce when scores will be available when I receive that information from College Board.

PSAT Tips!

  • Memorize directions before the test.

  • Leave NONE blank. Bubble remaining answers before time is called.

  • Use time wisely. Do what you know first.

  • Circle or underline key words in the questions (e.g., not, highest/lowest).

  • Read all answer choices before deciding.

  • In the reading section, read the questions before reading the passage.

  • If you can’t figure out an answer in a math section, Plug & Chug. (Take each answer and plug it into the equation to see if it works.)

  • Know the rules for Math Grid-Ins beforehand and complete Math Grid-ins first because you cannot make educated guesses.

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a high protein breakfast!

  • Visualize success!

What are the benefits of taking the PSAT?

Invitations and permission forms were sent out in the mail near the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year to select eighth grade students who qualify to take the PSAT. (Parents/guardians may also request for their child to take the test if their student is not initially invited.) The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. In the packet that was be sent out, the student received two different permission slips and information on the South Carolina Junior Scholars program.

Qualifying students and their parents/guardians had multiple ways they can submit the forms and payment.

1) Mail the signed forms and the fee payment (i.e., cash or check) to Mrs. McDonald with Fulmer's address (1614 Walterboro St, West Columbia, SC 29170).

2) Send the student with the forms and payment to school.

3) The parent/guardian may go by the school with both the signed forms and payment and drop the forms and payment off with Mrs. Missy Turner, our bookkeeper, or Mrs. McDonald, school counselor.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. McDonald at kmcdonald@lex2.org.
