Letterkenny Educate Together National School (LETNS) was established in 2006 in Letterkenny, County Donegal, starting in temporary accommodation at Ballyraine Halls.
Key Milestones:
2006: The school opens its doors with 36 pupils, two classrooms, and two teachers, founded on the Educate Together ethos of being equality-based, co-educational, child-centred, and democratically run.
October 2017: Due to rapid growth in the Letterkenny area, the school moved into its new, large, spacious, state-of-the-art building in Kiltoy, which has a capacity to accommodate over 700 pupils.
February 2018: The new school building was officially opened by Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton.
2024 (Ongoing): The school continues to grow, with planning permission recently granted for a major two-storey extension to add four new classrooms, a library, and a staff room.
The school operates as a National School, meaning it is governed by the Rules for National Schools, run by a Board of Management, staffed by qualified personnel, and committed to delivering the Primary School Curriculum. As a rapidly growing school of choice, its core ethos is founded on four principles:
Equality Based: All children, regardless of their social, cultural, or religious background, have equal rights of access and are equally respected.
Co-educational: The school encourages all children to explore their full range of abilities and opportunities.
Child-Centred: The approach to education focuses on the needs and development of the children.
Democratically Run: It involves active participation by parents in the school's daily life, while respecting the professional role of the teacher.
