Love /ləv/

noun

1. an intense feeling of deep affection.

2. a person or thing that one loves.

Place your hand over your chest. Did you feel that? Did you feel its beat? It’s not just keeping us alive, but it is the main source of love. I should say our heart is the most amazing thing we have; it does a lot of great things. In the dictionary, love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection, but can we really define love? This may be cliché but love is everything that is surrounding us. When we talk of love, it doesn’t always revolve around those people who are ‘in love’; it is also the love we have for our parents and our friends who always got our back. People say you lose yourself completely and become selfless when you’re in love. Is that what love does to people? Losing yourself completely? And is love the only way for us to have eternal happiness?

William Shakespeare in the ‘The Merchant of Venice’ once said, “One half of me is yours, the other half yours, Mine own, I would say; but if mine, then yours, And so all yours.”. When someone is in love, our heart tends to give its all to its other half. We focus too much on our partner because seeing them in pain, would pain us. Love is sacrificing. We risk ourselves for love and for the ones we love. Sacrificing is not really a must in terms of love, but normally, people cannot not sacrifice for their loved ones. Love is about not worrying about a single thing when you’re with the person you love. I always experience this, I always forget about the problems I have or even the worries I have in my mind when I’m with the person I love. Believe it or not, time flies too fast when we enjoy the moment with our loved ones. Love is when we fall head over heels repeatedly with the person we love. It may sound odd, but I know we all had that feeling where we fall in love all over again when we stare at our love. Love is happiness. Of course, it is. Love brings joy to our lives; it adds colors to our black and white world. I always feel this kind of love when I come home, and my dog would hover over me while he wags his little tail.

Remember when I asked, “Does love take away our identity or adds to who we are?”. Love neither take away our identity nor adds to who we are. Instead, it improves us in many aspects. We are still the same person, but love taught and will teach us a lot of new things and life lessons that we will always carry in our hearts and minds. A poem once said, “When love arrives say, ‘Welcome, make yourself comfortable.’ If love leaves, ask her to leave the door open behind her, turn off the music and listen to the quiet, whisper, ‘Thank you for stopping by.”

Once love leaves, do not change your perspective about love. Maybe the reason why love decided to leave because he knows that you deserve someone better, and that there are greater things waiting for you. Isn’t love such a wonderful thing? Now, all of us probably know the meaning of love and some of us may even have their own meaning of love.
