Manor Park Primary Academy
Weekly Notices and Reminders
Friday 22nd September 2023
Learning, Excellence and Opportunity
Manor Park Primary Academy School has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and procedures which are available to view on the website, or a copy can be requested from the School Office. Our designated Child Protection Officers are Ms. Thomas and Ms. Laing. Information may need to be shared with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. Manor Park Primary Academy is committed to gender, racial, religion and disability equality in every part of school life.
School Notices and Reminders
We will be including some general reminders in our Weekly Notices sheet in the coming weeks for the benefit of our new parents/carers and which we hope you will find useful. The Weekly Notices and Reminder Sheet is sent out every Friday and includes dates of forthcoming events, school visits and workshops and important messages and reminders about school life.
Alternative Home Time Arrangements
Due to the large volume of emails coming into the school office, we would like to ask that, if your child is being collected from school or after school club by another person and they are not on your list of contacts who do have permission to collect, Please send a note to their class teacher that morning. This will save time and ensure that the teacher is aware that someone else is collecting your child that day.
Lateness
We wanted to remind you that arriving on time is extremely important for a child as it ensures a good start to their day and to their learning. It also enables them to see their friends, chat to their teacher and consolidate or extend their learning from the previous day.
Arriving late causes a child to feel embarrassed and unsettled and can also be very disruptive to the class who may have already started their learning or gone into the hall for assembly. If a child arrives after registers have closed at 9.30am, this becomes an unauthorised absence on their attendance record.
Registration takes place at 8.55am and the children should be in class by then. Some of our children are arriving after 9.00am and by the time they hang their coats up and place lunch boxes on the racks, they are missing the start of the day.
Most of our late arrivals are only a few minutes late and we hope the following suggestions may help if you have difficulty getting your child(ren) to school on time.
Ensure that your child has a good bedtime routine and a nutritious breakfast in the morning to set them up for the start of the day.
Allow enough time for your journey to school.
Always have a back-up plan if a problem arises-a family member or another parent who could bring your child to school in the morning.
After School Clubs
After School Clubs are up and running and uptake was excellent. May we please remind you that your child should attend each week and if for some reason they have to miss a session. a note should be sent in to their class teacher that day. Clubs finish at 4.30pm-please ensure children are collected on time.
Medicines at School and Medical Needs
Children are not allowed to bring medication into school including non prescription items like cough sweets) to administer to themselves. We do not normally administer any medicines in school unless they are for a long term chronic condition such as asthma or if it is detrimental to a child's health if the medicines were not administered during the school day.
If your child requires medicine during the day, such as antibiotics, please ask your GP to prescribe dose frequencies which enable it to be taken outside school hours i.e before school after school and before bed. Alternatively, parents are welcome to come into school and administer medicines themselves, by arrangement with the office.
If a medicine needs to be administered during the school day, please come to the school office to discuss this and complete a permission form.
If your child has an injury that has required hospital treatment (injured arm or leg, bang to the head or similar) please come to the school office on their return to school. We must assess how their injury will need to be managed in school and if anything needs to be put in place to support them.
Has your child lost their glasses?
We have six pairs of children's glasses in the School Office-please come in if your child has lost theirs recently.
School Attendance
School Attendance
Manor Park Primary Academy strongly believes that good attendance will ensure that a child can take full advantage of what school has to offer and will gain the educational and social skills necessary for life. The expected level of attendance is 96% and above and awards are given out termly to every child in Reception to Year 6 who achieve a level of 98% or more during that term.
If a child’s attendance falls below the threshold of 90% (a level set by the Government and meaning that they have missed 38 sessions or 19 days of learning) they are monitored by the school and Borough School Attendance Services. Medical evidence may be required to support further absence and failure to comply may result in a fixed penalty notice being imposed. The Principal is unable to consider any request for leave for an emergency or exceptional circumstance if a child’s attendance is below that level. A child who misses 19 days (38 sessions) or more during an academic year will be classed as a persistently absent pupil and, over a five year period, a child whose attendance level is 90% or below would have missed half a year’s learning which will impact immensely on their education.
The Principal will not authorise time off for family holidays, as these should be taken during the school holidays. She will consider an application for leave for an emergency or an exceptional circumstance twice during a child’s time at Manor Park, once in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and once in Key Stage 2 but not in Years 2 or 6. A maximum of 10 days may be requested. A letter requesting leave and addressed to the Principal should be handed into the school office or emailed to the school at least one month before wherever possible. Copies of flight tickets are required if travelling abroad. You may also discuss your request with Mrs Oliveira in the school office.

School Visit to Lee Valley White Water Sports Centre
On Wednesday 20th September, a group of our pupils travelled by minibus to Lea Valley White Water Sports Centre in Waltham Cross for a tour of the venue and to take part in some water activities, including water safety sessions.
The venue is hosting this year's CF Canoe Slalom World Championships and the children enjoyed their visit and taking part in the activities on offer
SingUp Digichoir
Manor Park choir joined many other schools around the world to form the SingUp Digichoir during the Summer Term 2023. Children recorded their sessions and the footage was later edited together to form this amazing video of pupils, across the world, singing together virtually. The song, Blossom Out, by Tomuri Spicer was a hit with all the children! Please click here to watch it. Look closely- we feature in it more than once!
