Manor Park Primary Academy
Weekly Notices and Reminders
Friday 13th October 2023
Learning, Excellence and Opportunity
Manor Park Primary Academy School has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and procedures which are available to view on the website, or a copy can be requested from the School Office. Our designated Child Protection Officers are Ms. Thomas and Ms. Laing. Information may need to be shared with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. Manor Park Primary Academy is committed to gender, racial, religion and disability equality in every part of school life.
School Notices and Reminders
We will be including some general reminders in our Weekly Notices sheet in the coming weeks for the benefit of our new parents/carers, which we hope you will find useful. The Weekly Notices and Reminder Sheet is sent out every Friday and includes dates of forthcoming events, school visits and workshops and important messages and reminders about school life.

A small healthy snack and drink should be provided for the journey (no glass please).
A healthy packed lunch is also required to be eaten on arrival at Kingswood.
Any medication to be passed to Mrs Webb in a named bag when dropping children off. Travel sickness medication should be taken on the morning of the trip as required. Please also provide travel sickness medication for the return journey if required.
School Uniform Sale
We hosted our first uniform sale of this academic year last Monday in the playground.
I am happy to inform you that we raised £81.40 for school funds and many parents and carers were very glad to be able to buy these items at a very low cost. Thank you for your continued support.
Could we please remind parents that, if your child accidentally takes home another child's fleece or jumper, you please return this back to the school as soon as possible.
We have a large number of items in our lost property at the moment. May we please suggest that, if your child has lost any of their uniform items, you have a look at the lost property rack at the end of the school day which will be in the playground. Any unnamed items remaining at the end of this half term will be recycled or donated towards the next uniform sale.

This Week At Manor Park
Year 6 Express and Share Assembly
On Wednesday 11th October, Year 6 welcomed their parents and carers into school to share the learning they have been completing this half term in an express and share assembly. The topic this half term has been 'Maafa' which means 'great tragedy' and teaches the children all about the transatlantic slave trade and the people and countries involved. During the assembly the children shared a wealth of the History learning. Sahara and Aalinah acted out a podcast they had written as part of their History learning, whilst Jayden, Quist and Sebastian read out their acrostic poems written about slavery. The children then invited their parents and carers into their classrooms to help paint and decorate African masks they had been making as part of their DT learning. It was great to see so much support for children during both the morning and afternoon assemblies. Class teachers praised the children for their compassion, empathy and maturity in the learning of what can be a sensitive, but important, topic.
Year 4 Express and Share Assembly
On Thursday 12th October, Year 4 also invited their parents and carers into school for their annual express and share assembly based on their topic 'Invasion'. This is a History based topic in which the children learn all about the Anglo Saxons, Vikings and Normans. The children shared some of their fantastic newspaper reports written on The Battle of Hastings, as well as their narratives based on the story 'The Saga of Erik the Viking.' Year 4 shared how the Anglo Saxons created their legacy through place names and the churches they built when Christianity was brought back into the country. As well as this, they showed off some of their fabulous Saxon style weaving they had completed through Art lessons in class. Following the assembly, the children were lucky enough to have many parents come back to the classrooms to design and make their own Anglo Saxon shields using cardboard and paint. They thought carefully about their designs, ensuring they suited the Anglo Saxon style.
Keep an eye on our 'Dates for your Diary' section for information on any further upcoming year group Express & Share Assemblies.
Football Matches
This week, the Y6 boys football team have been in action in 2 cup games. On Wednesday, they travelled to Whitgift School for a tough 1st round draw in the Surrey Cup. Despite excellent resilience and teamwork to be proud of, Whitgift finished the match as winners. On Thursday, they played in a Sutton and Cheam Cup match against Abbey School. The boys were determined to win after their previous loss and progress to the next round of the competition. They put on a superb display of skill and excellent communication throughout the match, winning with a superb score of 5-1. The boys' performance was due to the hard work and dedication they have shown in training. They are now looking forward to the next round of the competition.
Black History Month
Black History month
This week and throughout October, we have been celebrating Black History Month where the theme is ‘Celebrating our Sisters’. Pupils have been learning about many influential black women who have achieved remarkable things in their lifetime; this has included figures such as Rosa Parks, Alesha Dixon and Laura Henry-Allain (who has previously visited Manor Park!). Pupils have been engaged in art, writing and computing activities to learn more about these magnificent role models and how they have influenced our lives today. They enjoyed reading collections of books from BAME authors and stories with protagonists that are both diverse and inclusive.
