Welcome Back
We would like to wish all our families a happy New Year and we all hope that 2021 will bring us renewed hope, health and happiness.
Our new school term brings with it new arrangements for our children's learning, whether they are at home or at school. For the next few weeks, Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy and Brookfield Primary Academy will be working together to provide education for pupils across both schools. As ever, our priority remains to ensure that our pupils have access to the highest quality education. All our staff across both schools have been working extremely hard to prepare lessons and exciting activities that can be accessed both at home and at school. We would like to thank parents for the wonderful, positive comments we have already received regarding their children's engagement with and enjoyment of the lessons and activities that have been provided so far.
The newsletter we will be sending out weekly this term will include a section for each year group, celebrating pupils' learning across both schools. We will also include any news updates and other important information for parents.
We hope you enjoy reading our new-style newsletter!
Early Years
This week we have been using our sounds to write simple sentences. We have been on searches to find objects to write about in our sentences.
Year 1
Year 1 have been very busy this week acting out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and even pretending to be Goldilocks to write an apology letter to the Bears!
In Maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and in our Topic lessons we found out all about the season of Winter.
Year 2
In English Year 2 have been very busy creating fact files about owls and comparing different species of owls. In maths we have had lots of fun measuring using non standard units. In geography we have been finding out about north, south east and west and in science we have been using our knowledge of animals to sort them into different groups.
Year 3
Year 3 have worked very hard on their descriptive writing skills. They have planned and written a detailed setting description based on the text 'The Song of the Dolphin Boy' and written wonderful poems about dolphins using lots of effective poetic techniques.
In their maths lessons they have been learning how to draw and read picture graphs and bar graphs.
They have been practising their retrieval and inference skills in reading lessons and have also had lots of fun learning about rivers and rocks to kick off the new topic 'Misty Mountain, Winding River!'
Year 4
All the staff in year 4 have been incredibly impressed with the hard work shown by the pupils so far this week! In what has been a very different start to the year, all the children have shown perseverance and patience in adapting to a new way of completing their learning. We all look forward to seeing how the children impress and develop their learning even further next week!
Teachers have been amazed by some of the work coming in this week in maths, writing, reading , topic and art!
Year 5
Year 5 have been working really hard this week. The teachers are so impressed with all their efforts. In maths, the children used Jamboard to work on area and perimeter, in reading, they have been reading a variety of materials, showing their understanding of some increasingly complex texts!
In topic lessons, they have enjoyed learning about the conservation of the planet.
Year 6
Year 6 have been getting really stuck into their distance learning this week and have been enjoying their live lessons.
In maths, we have been looking at area and perimeter and have learnt how to find the area of triangles and parallelograms. During the afternoon, the children have taken part in a variety of foundation subject lessons including PSHE which looked at Growth Mindset.
