Newsletter- Friday 5th November 2021

A big welcome back to you all after half term. It was wonderful to see how quickly the children settled back to school and how happy they were with the changes that have been made over half term. All of the classrooms and hallways were painted and new carpets were laid throughout the school. We also had a makeover to the main hall doors as you enter the school. This weekend the team will be continuing their work by decorating the hall.

This week we also introduced our new 'Star of the Day' certificates and it is has been so pleasing to see so many children achieving them for demonstrating THRIVE.

On another note, we are working hard with the learning leaders and pupil parliament representatives to think about playtimes and ways in which we can improve the offer for our children. This week we have introduced various different activities for the younger children to do and our sports leaders have done an excellent job at supporting them too. We will be purchasing more playground equipment for the older children over the coming weeks.

A big thank you to all of the parents/carers who completed the parent survey. We have had lots of responses and are already putting some of the suggestions into action. We will keep you posted on actions that we take.

Mrs Dallimore

This week we have been learning....

The children have been working exceptionally hard this week. They are really beginning to develop stamina in their learning and are far more aware of up-leveling their own work to make it even better. This week we spent time looking at books across the key stages and we were thrilled to see the progress evident from the beginning of term. A big well done to you all!

On Thursday a few of our Year 6 children attended a maths day held at Epsom Primary School. The team were amazing: they worked extremely hard, showed great resilience and used their problem solving skills.

Times Table Rockstars - England Rocks 2021

For Maths Week England we want to make maths exciting and high profile in our school. We will be taking part in a friendly competition involving schools from England from Monday 8th November to Thursday 11th November. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average. Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7:30am and 7:30pm on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th. To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm.

Good Luck!

He will tell us a little bit of information about each gin and mixer before serving them, allowing plenty of time in between each one to drink, chat and eat.

2020/2021 Overview - What a difference we can make together...

Well what a year that was! Thank you for supporting all of our events, old and new, last year. It really did make us think out of the box for our fundraising efforts! Astonishingly, we made a similar amount to every other year, despite not having our usual ‘larger’ events such as the fairs and fun days. Please see the attached breakdown poster.

Our spending for 2021-2022 will go towards playground equipment and games, forest school equipment, updating the books in the school library and classrooms and potentially beginning a sensory garden project. Watch this space!!

School Lottery

Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.

Join today! Click here to access the Your School Lottery website to learn more about how it works and how to join.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!
