We've had a bustling week of learning, creativity, and sporting achievements. From exploring local history to mastering needlework, our children have been engaged in a wide range of activities.

This week, we're highlighting the success of our Virtual Parent Consultations, held on Monday and Thursday, which provided valuable opportunities for parents/ carers and teachers to connect. We also celebrated the Reception class's trip to the Church on Thursday, and Year 5's creative needle workshop on Friday. Year 1 embarked on a fascinating visit to Elmbridge Museum on Tuesday, while Year 6 parents prepared for upcoming assessments at the SATs Parents Meeting on Monday.

Our sporting stars shone brightly this week, with the Year 2 TAG rugby festival, the Year 5 and 6 gym competition, the Year 3 and 4 Badminton festival, and the U10 Boys football match showcasing their talents.

We're ending the week on a high note with Red Nose Day and World Down Syndrome Day, both important opportunities for our school community to come together and support meaningful causes.

Looking ahead to next week, we have an equally exciting events. Year 4&5 will be taking part in a thrilling Dodgeball session, Year 6 will learn about civic responsibility at Junior Citizen, Year 3 will showcase their football skills at LEO football competition, Year 2 will delve into the wonders of science at the Science Museum, and we welcome the CEO for a visit.

Uniform reminders 

• Where to buy: School uniforms can be purchased from Network UK Uniform and Schoolwear inc. Please note Network UK still has stock of uniform which has the old HP logo on.  They are selling it at a reduced price, however it is still fine to wear/purchase as this may be more affordable for parents

• Nursery: Branded dark green t-shirt and sweatshirt, any color tracksuit bottoms or leggings, and suitable footwear (no crocs, open-toed shoes, sandals, or strapless sandals).

• Reception and KS1: Polo shirt (with or without logo), grey skirt/pinafore dress/trousers/shorts, emerald green cardigan or school jumper, sturdy black shoes, green/grey tights or grey/white socks, and a green striped/check summer dress (Summer term/Autumn 1 term).  

• KS2: School tie with a white blouse/shirt (Autumn 2 to Spring 2) or a polo shirt (Summer term/Autumn 1 term), grey skirt/pinafore dress/trousers/shorts, emerald green cardigan or school jumper, sturdy black shoes, green/grey tights or grey/white socks, and a green striped/check summer dress (Summer term/Autumn 1 term).  

• PE Kit (worn only on PE days): White crew neck t-shirt (plain or with school logo), black jogging trousers (no leggings/running tights), green Hurst Park sweatshirt, black shorts, white t-shirt (plain or with school logo), and trainers (not plimsolls). All items should be logo-free, except for the school logo.

• Forest School: Old clothes, including waterproof trousers or an old pair of trousers, a waterproof jacket, and Wellington boots with socks or other sturdy waterproof shoes (no crocs, open shoes, sandals, or flip-flops).

• Swimming (KS2): All-in-one swimsuit or close-fitting trunks (no long or baggy trunks), swimming hat, goggles, and a towel.

• Jewellery: Only small stud earrings are allowed and must be removed for PE or taped if the child cannot remove them. Smartwatches are not permitted.

Bikes and Scooters reminders 

For the safety of all our children and families, please remember that riding bikes and scooters is not permitted within the school playground.

We kindly ask that you ride to the school gate and then walk your bike or scooter through the playground. This is especially important during drop-off and pick-up times, as there are many young children and people present.

Your cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for everyone is greatly appreciated.

Author Visit 

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the author visit from Benji Alexander that was due to take place this week has been cancelled.

 If you have sent in money to purchase a book, this will be returned with your child.

We are disappointed that this visit cannot proceed as planned and are already in the process of exploring alternative dates for Benji and other authors to visit our school.

Golden ticket Celebration - next week

So that all children have the chance to participate in the Golden Ticket celebration, we've made a slight change to the schedule. Due to the Year 5 residential to Devon in the final week of term, winners so far will celebrate next week. Golden Tickets earned in the coming two weeks will be celebrated in Summer 1. 

World Down Syndrome Day 

Today is World Down Syndrome Day! 

Don't forget there is still time to take part in the Sunflower competition.  We have received some wonderful entries! 

Here’s how to enter:

Create a Sunflower Masterpiece: Draw, paint, collage, or create a sunflower picture using any medium you like.

Clearly Label Your Entry: Write your name and class clearly on the back of your artwork.

Submit Your Artwork: Please hand in your entries to the school office by Monday March 24th.

Our Head Pupils will have the task of choosing a winner from each category. The winning children will receive a book about sunflowers

Today the Reception children have also planted their own sunflower seeds!  We can't wait to see them grow. 

We have had a fantastic Red Nose Day, filled with red outfits and lots of laughter! A highlight was the school councillors' selection of the best jokes from each class. Prepare for some giggles – we hope you enjoy them!

Our school is buzzing with excitement for Earth Day 2025! We're celebrating our planet's 55th birthday and we want YOU to help us spread the word about protecting our environment.

Poster Competition

Grab your crayons, paints, or whatever you like to create with and design a poster showing how we can use our power to protect our planet. The theme is "Our Power, Our Planet" so think about using bright colours, catchy slogans, and powerful images to show how we can all make a difference. The winning poster will win a prize for their Eco Council and will be displayed in our school and even across the Trust!

All entries should be given to your teacher or the Sustainability Lead by March 31st. Let's show how much we care about our planet!

Power Hour

On Earth Day, we'll also have a special "Power Hour" where we'll switch off all unnecessary lights and electronics for one hour to save energy. Every little bit helps!

Remember, it's Our Planet and it's Our Power to protect it!

 Play and Leisure Activities for Children with Additional Needs and Disabilities

We are excited to let you know that Surrey County Council has been awarded £500,000 of grant funding to providers to enable a range of new, inclusive, community-based activities for children with additional needs and disabilities across the county. This funding has gone to a mix of different organisations, such as sports clubs, leisure centres, charities and activity providers, to support them to provide inclusive opportunities that better meet the needs of a wider range of children. These new pilot projects will be delivering activities after school, at weekends and during the holidays through to the end of March 2025. 

You can find information about the different projects Surrey are supporting through grant-funding at Pilot mainstream play and leisure activities for children with Additional Needs | Surrey Local Offer. Please note that Surrey will be updating this information regularly, as the details of further opportunities are confirmed. These pilot projects will complement the existing Short Breaks Play and Leisure services funded by Surrey County Council. You can find out more about these schemes and where they are in the county on their Short Breaks webpage.

We have updated the Amazon Wishlist with books that we would like to have in each class for storytime. You may view the list of items by following this link. Once purchased, these items will be delivered directly to school and opened with the children – what a great treat!

Hurst Park Primary Academy is looking for volunteers to enhance children's learning. Volunteers are highly valued and appreciated by children and staff. In the past, volunteers have helped children with reading and maintaining the Library. Volunteers must complete a comprehensive induction programme, including a DBS check, and adhere to our Safeguarding procedures. Congratulations to Zinnia, Rebecca and Lyla who performed beautifully on Saturday in the Molesey School of Ballet's dance show "Around the World". The hours of practise paid off and the show was a delight to watch.

Year 1 Chertsey Museum Visit 

Year 2 Now Press Play 

Year 2 enjoyed an exciting "Now Press Play" safari, linking with their book, "One Day on Our Blue Planet in the Savannah." They learned about animals and conditions through interactive, immersive activities. A fantastic learning experience!

Year 2 Writing  

2T Family Assembly 

Year 2's family assembly featured the story of Leaf, a polar bear lost from the Arctic. Children shared diary entries, written as Leaf, describing his arrival in a strange new place. A lovely display of their empathy and writing!

Year 4 Maths 

Mastering number in Year 4 today was examining the 11 and 12 times table.  11 boxes of dog biscuits, where each box costs £10... OR... 10 boxes of dog biscuits where each box costs £11. Which costs more? Check out these children's working! 

Year 5 Editing Carousel Success!

This week, Year 5 students participated in an "editing carousel," where they read and provided feedback on each other's writing using editing strips. This collaborative activity fostered critical thinking and helped them improve their editing skills.

Year 6 Lego Coding 

6B had a blast with Lego Coding, building and programming a bowling scene using step-by-step instructions. Great engagement and coding skills on display!

District Cross Country Running 

Incredible performance at the district cross country this morning! Every runner gave their all and showed true grit. So proud of all the hard work and determination!

Tag Rugby 

We had an amazing time at the Y2 Tag Rugby Festival this afternoon at Donhead Prep. Everyone practiced their skills and played loads of fun games. Great teamwork and lots of smiles all around! Well done all!

Gymnastic Competition 

What an exciting morning at the Y5 & 6 GymKidz Gymnastics competition! Amazing vault and floor routines from all our talented gymnasts.  A big well done to Daniel for getting first place in Vault ! 

Netball Game 

Fantastic win for our Y5 & 6 Netball team against Hinchley Wood! Great teamwork, brilliant passing, and some amazing goals! Proud of the effort from everyone on the court!
