Learning

Welcome Back To School

Welcome back everyone, we hope you have had a lovely break and hope that the children are ready for some great learning. We would like to extend a special welcome to all the families who are new to Cheam Fields. We also welcome, Miss Shaw, our new Deputy Headteacher. We will temporarily be saying goodbye to Mrs Carlile as she will soon be going on maternity leave.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Parsons, our Site Manager, and his team for all their hard work in getting the school ready for the new academic year. We are delighted with the new cupboards in the Year 4 and Year 5 classrooms, the Reception classrooms have been redecorated and the school kitchen has been refurbished. The whole school has been cleaned and tidied and is looking great.

Deputy Headteacher

Miss Shaw

The children have settled back into the school routine and are currently studying the IPC Brainwave unit. This unit helps the children to brush up on skills that they may have forgotten over the holidays and also looks at the way we learn. Here are some of the topics covered:

  • How the brain works
  • How our Excellent Eight personal goals help us to become better learners
  • Why it is important to learn from other children and cultures around the world
  • How positive thinking and relaxation can help prepare us for learning
  • How we can become more active global citizens

Excellence

Key Stage Results for 2018

We are very pleased with our results across all Key Stages this year:

  • Early Years - 74% achieving a Good Level of Development
  • Year 1 Phonics - 93% achieving the Expected Standard
  • Key Stage 1 - 80% achieving the Expected Standard in Reading, Writing and Maths with 25% working at Greater Depth
  • Key Stage 2 - 82% achieving the Expected Standard in Reading, Writing and Maths with 25% working at Greater Depth

Well done to all the children who worked really hard and thank you to all the staff for your hard work and dedication in enabling the children to achieve these great results.

Uniform

Please make sure your child is wearing correct school uniform (please refer to our website) to school. This year children should wear their school uniform to school every day and not come to school wearing their PE kits as they did last year. This is because we are encouraging the children to take pride in wearing their uniform and therefore take pride in themselves and the school.

PE Kits

All children should have a PE kit in school every day (please refer to our website). Items in the PE kit should not have any branding with the exception of the school logo!

Name It...

Please name all items brought to school including: clothing, shoes, lunch boxes, water bottles etc. We do our best to return named items to their owners by we cannot be responsible for any lost items. We already have a mountain of lost property which will be outside the main entrance on Friday after school. So if you missing any items, please pop along and claim them.

Pop Up Uniform Shop

If you still need to buy items of school uniform, Schoolwear Inc will be holding a pop up shop on Monday 24th September in the hall after school.

Attendance

Good attendance plays an important role in children's attainment. Good attendance is celebrated each week in our Star of the Week assemblies. In the infants the classes with the best attendance are awarded the 'Be There Bear' or the 'Meerkat'. At the end of each term the class with the best attendance will have a non-uniform (Mufti) day as a reward.

Although we strive for 100% attendance we know that children will be poorly and unable to come to school. We ask you to make sure your child comes to school every day they possibly can - attendance should not fall below 96%.

Before and After School Clubs

School run after school clubs will start during the week commencing Monday 17th September. We would like to say a big thank you to our dedicated staff who will be giving their time to run these clubs - we know the children really enjoy them.

We will be using our on-line ‘Parents Evening System,’ to book any school clubs for the Autumn Term that are managed and led by teachers or teaching assistants. You will be able to make your booking from 8.00pm on Tuesday 11th September until midnight on Thursday 13th September. To log on to ‘Parentsevening System’ please go to the following web page: https://cheamfields.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/ If you do not think we have your correct email address or you have changed it and not informed us please come to the School Office to amend your details. The Parents' Evening System uses the parent contact data the school holds and any incorrect data will not allow you to log on. The letter and timetable will also be sent home via book bags and will be available on our website.

If your child is attending a paying club that is run by outside agency please refer to the information they provide as this may be different to our school run clubs.

Communication

We do our best to keep you informed about what is happening at school through newsletters, twitter, email and eSchools Parent Communication App. The eSchools app is a great way to keep up to date and keep all the school information in one place. It also allows us to send you text notifications through the app at no cost. The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. If you don't know your login details, please ask at the office. If you are new to Cheam Fields you will shortly receive a letter home with your account details.
