Reception are asking all children to come to school dressed in pyjamas on 27th November just like the little boy from the book/film ‘The Snowman’. During the week we will be taking part in fun activities to get us excited about the topic.
The children will still be accessing the outside area so please ensure they are wearing appropriate footwear and clothing under their pyjamas so they do not get cold. Children may bring one teddy with them but this must be clearly named.
Click here for a copy of the slides.
As you know, we always like to decorate the school at Christmas time. This year, if you wish, we would like you and your child to make a bell. This can be made in any way you would like, using any materials you choose.
These are going to be hung from strings around the school, so please make sure they are not made of anything too heavy or too big (no glass please).
Please bring your bells into school by Friday 6th December at the latest.
Our current Year 4 classes have their Steve McQueen photographs displayed in the exhibition at the Tate Britain, these will be on display until 3rd May.
Year 4 will be visiting the exhibition on Wednesday 22nd January 2020 as part of our Arts Week (a letter will be coming home soon).
If you want to visit this free exhibition before then, you won't find the location of our photographs on a public map and gallery staff will not hold or share information about where specific photographs are located due to safeguarding reasons.
Our photograph is located in Section 22.
The exhibition spans 24 sections that are marked clockwise from the entrance.
Please note that in some instances the photographs might span across two sections, if they appear at the end of one line, so please look to the next section if you don’t see them banked together.
The gallery have requested that you are mindful of sharing the location of our photos on social media for safeguarding reasons.
We hope you enjoy the exhibition if you decide to go - we can't wait to see our photos as part of the exhibition in January!
Please can we encourage you not to let children play on the trim trail before and after school for safety reasons.
Your help and understanding is appreciated.
Please remember to be respectful of our neighbours and park responsibly in the surrounding roads.
For the safety of our children and people crossing outside school, please do not use the roads around our entrances to do 3 -point turns - it is dangerous.
We would like to start a board game lunchtime club. If anyone has any unwanted board games we would be most grateful.
Please hand them in to the office or give them to Mrs Townsend.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
In January, we are going to be working on a piece of art for an art competition all about endangered animals. We would like to use some images of children posing with or around endangered animals.
Do you have any photographs of children with/around endangered animals or just endangered animals?
Examples: Elephants / Pangolins / Rhinos / Tigers / Chimpanzees / Snow Leopards / Lions and Painted dogs
We would of course do our best to return these once the competition has finished.
More information can be found at: https://davidshepherd.org/global-canvas
Please give any photographs to Mr Ansell or hand them into the main office FAO Mr Ansell.

This week Ruby and Oscar came to share their 'Live and Let Live' projects and Eliza dazzled us with her Roman mosaic.
Ruby had created a diagram of a flower using stickers and labelled it. Oscar had made a wonderful habitat box for a bat.
Eliza made a Roman inspired mosaic . Great attention to detail Eliza, it must have taken ages!
Remember to check out the Home Learning page on the website to find details of your optional projects!
Make sure you come and show Miss Shaw and Mrs Townsend.

Our new Eco Worriers have been selected by their classes to advocate changes that will benefit our local community and future generations. They are becoming truly outstanding global citizens (inspired by Greta Thunberg) who place the well-being of our environment, as well as the entire planet, at the centre of their actions.
They are buzzing with ideas such as: local rubbish collections, more efficient sorting of our school’s rubbish and some competitions to involve everyone who does not yet know much about the urgency of the situation.
‘’ I can't wait to be an Eco-Warrior as I really want to save the animals in the oceans and stop plastic from polluting the seas. In the future, I wish to see the seas to be as safe as they can be, with no harmful substances floating in them and fish being free to swim safely.’’ Amy, Year 4
"We should start recycling more in order to avoid spread of pollution in the world." Jack, Year 3
So far, they have discussed the ways of making your local surroundings more pleasant. The next step will be to spring clean our local park (look out for more information because we will need your help!)
They will keep you posted on the news!
Ingredients
200g butter, cubed
200g plain chocolate, broken into squares
200g light soft brown sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
250g self-raising flour
For the icing
200g plain chocolate, broken into squares
100ml double cream, not fridge-cold
50g icing sugar
For the reindeers
12 large milk chocolate buttons (we used Cadbury Dairy Milk Giant Buttons)
24 white chocolate buttons
12 red Smarties
black icing pens
mini pretzels, carefully cut in half horizontally
Method
Get started: Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cases. Gently melt the butter, chocolate, sugar and 100ml hot water together in a large saucepan, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool a little while you weigh the other ingredients.
Make your cakes: Stir the eggs and vanilla into the chocolate mixture. Put the flour in a large mixing bowl, and stir in the chocolate mixture until smooth. Spoon into the cases until just over three-quarters full. Bake on a low shelf in the oven for 20-22 mins. Leave to cool.
Ice the tops: To make the icing, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Once melted, turn off the heat, stir in the double cream, sift in the icing sugar and mix well. When spreadable, top each cake with some icing.
Have fun decorating: Position a milk chocolate button on top of each cake, then 2 white chocolate buttons above it. Use a little icing as glue to stick a red Smartie onto the milk chocolate button for a nose. Then use your icing pens to draw black dots on the white buttons for eyes. Stick 2 pretzel top halves into the top of each cake for antlers, and stick the bottom half of a pretzel under the Smartie for a mouth.
These cakes will keep in a sealed container for up to 3 days, but we doubt they’ll last that long!

The Sustainable Transport Team is seeking to recruit Cycle Instructors in the Sutton area to deliver Bikeability, the national cycle training programme for children. As one of our professional trained instructors you could earn up to £420.16 per week to deliver our standard Bikeability courses involving 20 hours of contact with riders plus time for course administration and travel. Our Bikeability sessions are typically 10.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 15.00, plus travel time. All instructors must train on a 4-day National Standard Instructor course. It is an advantage if you already hold this qualification although not essential as training will be arranged for the right candidates.
So if you are a regular cyclist, have good road sense, are a good communicator and enjoy working outdoors, then this could be just the job for you. If appropriate you will receive further training in First Aid and Cycle Maintenance.
For an informal discussion about these positions please telephone Eric Chasseray, Sustainable Transport Officer on 020 8547 5826 or email eric.chasseray@kingston.gov.uk
The Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton, Citizens Advice and LBS are holding two events to explain about the EU Settlement scheme and the help that they can offer. They will also answer any queries that people may have.
These are taking place on the 5th Dec and 30th January from 5.30 - 7pm at the Civic Offices.
