Learning

Year 3 Drumming Assembly

Last Friday, Year 3 showed off their drumming skills. They invited parents to come and watch them perform a Samba. After the performance the parents left the cold and windy playground to have refreshments in the hall. Once everyone was seated, we explained how we acquired our drumming skills and then asked the parents to join in with the rhythms and call and responses. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr O'Niell, our drumming teacher, for all his hard work.

Red Nose Day

We are very pleased to report that Red Nose Day was a huge success. The children had lots of fun taking part in a range of sporting activities such as speed bounce, daily mile run, cone race, basketball games and many others. We raised an amazing £2623.79! Thank you for your generous donations which will help many children in need here and around the world.

Book Fair

We are very excited to announce that our book fair was extremely successful with sales of £1665.70! This gives us a fantastic rewards total of £999.42 which we are looking forward to spending on reading across the school! Thank you to everyone who supported us.

Badger Class Visit Pizza Express

On Wednesday 20th March the children in Badger class went on a trip to Pizza Express. They learned about the history of the pizza and that the margherita is the queen of all pizzas. The children then had the opportunity to prepare their own pizza. They pushed the dough at the edges to made the crust on the pizzas and then all got their bear claw hands out to make tiny holes in the base of the pizzas to help them to cook. Then they spread the tomato sauce, sprinkled on the cubes of cheese and put then in the oven to cook. They smelled delicious!

Making Memories During Science Week

Don’t forget to check SIMS Pay to make your payment so we can continue to offer such fantastic opportunities. Thank you to those families who have already made their payment.

Why not ask your child how they used our

Word of the Week?

Year 1: elated

Year 2: exhausted

Years 3 & 4: animated

Years 5 & 6: cerulean

Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group’s book list.

This week’s book is 'Trash' by Andy Mulligan and is from the Year 6 book list.

Raphael lives on a dumpsite, eking out a living sifting through rubbish. One unlucky-lucky day, he makes an extraordinary and deadly discovery. Now he and his two friends, Gardo and Rat, are wanted by the corrupt forces that run the city and will stop at nothing to get back what they've lost.

From the slums to the mansions of the elite, it's going to take all of their quick-thinking and fast-talking to stay ahead. And to stay alive.

The children need to remember to fill in a book review once they have read a book!

Social networking is hugely popular. Many young people are sophisticated in the way they use social media apps and websites, tailoring their communication for different audiences, and accessing them from a range of devices including smartphones, tablets, and games consoles.

However, social media, like all forms of public communication, comes with some risks. In order to help you and your child understand what the risks are, we are pleased to offer you a workshop entitled 'keeping children safe online' which will be delivered by the London Borough of Sutton's Educational E-Safety advisor. The advice delivered by Steve will help you to play a part in preventing risks turning into problems.

As we are aware people work, and we know you understand how important this topic is and therefore will want to attend, we have asked Steve to deliver the workshop at two different times to enable as many people as possible to attend.

Cheam Fields Choir

Following our music assembly we would like to develop our KS2 Choir further. We would like to invite children from Years 3, 4, and 5 to join our weekly rehearsals in preparation for the LEO Schools Concert that will be held towards the end of the summer term. If you child would like to join the Choir, please ask at the office.

Discos

This week the children have had the opportunity to attend the discos. We would like to say a big thank you to the PTFA for organising this event. The children have had a lovely time.

All the money raised from the discos will be used to upgrade the library corners in all classrooms.
