It has been another busy week with lots of great learning, excellence and opportunities happening at Cheam Fields.
Thank you to those of you who completed the survey about our newsletter. We will continue to make sure it gives you all the information and dates you require as well as showcasing all the wonderful things happening at school.
The newsletter and school website are the best places to find all the information you should need; it even has the twitter feed on the front page (which you don't need a password to view).
Enjoy and have a lovely weekend.

Well done everyone!
Hedgehog and Otter class have loved being creative this week - painting portraits and writing their names.
On Monday, Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Pollock, a Victorian toy maker. She brought toys from her factory for the children to learn about and play with. Most were made out of wood as plastic hadn’t been invented back then.
The next day Year 1 received a letter with some terrible news. The Magic Toy Maker's factory had flooded. He needed the children's help to make some toys. We used a variety of materials to produce our own toys including; rockets, cars, dolls houses and robots.
In Year 3 this week we started our new science topic 'Saving the World'. For our entry point we turned our classrooms into a rainforest. We created waterfalls, rivers, trees and animals.
"I worked in a team to make trees. We realised that it was a challenging task to make the trees stand up so we really had to work together." Harriet, Jade Class
Year 3 then returned the following morning to see their creations destroyed just like the current deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest.
"I felt terrified to see our hard work destroyed!" Ruby, Jade Class
"It made me so sad because we spent a long time doing it." Sophie, Jade Class
Optional Home Learning tasks for Year 1-6 are available on the school website.
These are updated half termly/termly depending on the topics.

Two representatives from each class have been selected for our Learning Council again this year. The Learning Council meets with Miss Shaw to discuss each class’ ideas about things they would like to change or improve in order to improve learning across our school. We can’t wait to see all the ways in which they help improve learning at Cheam Fields.
Thank you to all of the children involved and good luck in this really important role.

Digital Leaders help to maintain the digital equipment in the school. The digital leaders in each class have the responsibility of gathering the equipment needed and will then return it after it has been used. They are trained in how to look after and maintain the schools technology.
They also meet every few weeks to discuss how we can use technology in the classes and are trained to help those in their class who are less confident using it. They also help to create assemblies about e-safety and help others to remain safe whilst online. Digital leaders will often try-out new technologies in the school and always provide excellent feedback.
Year 4: Evie, Rose, Fynn, Jefreet
Year 5: Max, Lilly L, Lois, Hayden
Year 6: Frankie, Bosco, George, Jason, Jack, Gemma,

"I enjoyed being a Digital Leader because I got to teach my friends and family how to use electronics." Lois (Year 5).
Well done Freddy for participating in 11 Junior Park Runs and running the equivalent of half a marathon.

On Wednesday 18th September, Topaz class were invited to participate in a now>press>play demonstration. Now>press>play is an immersive audio resource that engages primary school children in the curriculum through emotion, imagination and movement.
Children in Emerald were each given a pair of wireless headphones. They then became immersed in sound, becoming the main character in a story about the Stone Age. While listening to the story the children had to pretend to paint on the cave wall using chalk and animal blood as well as aim and fire a bow and arrow. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot about the Stone Age time.
We are pleased to announce that the PTFA have kindly purchased the now>press>play equipment to support learning across the school.
Thank you to the PTFA!
On Thursday 12 September, Cheam Fields Swimming Gala Squad went to the World Para Swimming Championships. We saw lots of disabled swimmers but that did not stop them competing. All of the swimmers were so fast. Someone even set the world record! It doesn't matter if you are different - you can still be the best you can be!
