What a fantastic first term we have had.
It was lovely to see so many of you at our productions. I was so proud of all the children – they did remarkably well.
It is such a special time of year, which gives us the opportunity to spend time with our loved ones and take time to reflect on and appreciate all that we have to be thankful for. It can be very easy to become distracted by and allow our thoughts to focus on the challenges that life brings and the many upsetting events that we hear about in the news, it is especially important to recognise and celebrate all that we have to be thankful for at this time of year.
I am sure that pupils, parents and carers would like to join with me in thanking all of the staff and governors for their continued tremendous hard work and commitment to the students of the school. Likewise, we the staff, governors and pupils would like to thank all parents and carers for all your support. Last but in no way the least, we the rest of the school community thank our pupils – you are indeed some of the best pupils I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year, and I’ll look forward to see you in 2020.
Miss Shaw

In January, we are going to be working on a piece of art for an art competition all about endangered animals. We would like to use some images of children posing with or around endangered animals.
Do you have any photographs of children with/around endangered animals or just endangered animals?
Examples: Elephants / Pangolins / Rhinos / Tigers / Chimpanzees / Snow Leopards / Lions and Painted dogs
We would of course do our best to return these once the competition has finished.

In spite of a busy term, children have managed to make and sell their enterprise project items. They designed them, carried out market research and advertised their products.
Thank you to those of you who supported their business ventures, they managed to make a staggering 120% profit. The money will be used to buy some playground equipment (as voted for by the children) as well as other things for their classes. Some of it will also be going to charity.
At Cheam Fields, we aim to help pupils to develop a national, international and global perspective of learning.
We promote and celebrate diversity. One of the ways we do this is by celebrating a host country each term.
Our Spring term host countries are:
Year 1 - China
Year 2 - France
Year 3 - India
Year 4 - Canada
Year 5 - Russia
Year 6 - South Africa
Cheam Fields will once again be getting involved in the 500 Words writing competition run by BBC Radio 2. The competition will officially open in January, so the Christmas holidays are the perfect opportunity to practise those story writing skills.
It’s super simple. All entrants must pen an original story, no more than 500 words in length, and submit it online. It can be about ANYTHING you want – space-ships, grannies, insects, microwaves. The list is endless!
Stories are judged anonymously, without regard to grammar, punctuation or spelling. The competition culminates in a broadcast extravaganza of live music and sensational story-telling every summer, at a special venue. Past venues have included The Globe and The Tower of London. 2018 saw a magnificent extravaganza come live from Hampton Court Palace.
Take a look at the 500 words website to be inspired by the previous winners and read more about the competition - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk1.
We will give you more details when the competition officially opens in January!
Remember to check out the Home Learning page on the website to find details of your optional projects!
Make sure you come and show Miss Shaw and Mrs Townsend.

We have partnered with 64 Million Artists to take on The January Challenge 2020!
64 Million Artists believe that everyone is creative, and they run The January Challenge to kickstart the creativity and wellbeing of everybody in our school.
The January Challenge is 31 days of quick creative challenges designed to inspire creative thinking and action for both teachers and students. We’ll be using the challenges in tutor time and in lessons - you could even do the challenges in break time, or create your own gallery in your classes.
This year, we are joining thousands of people in schools, offices, hospitals, care homes and libraries across the country who are ready to have some fun this January.
Bring it on, January...

The Sustainable Transport Team is seeking to recruit Cycle Instructors in the Sutton area to deliver Bikeability, the national cycle training programme for children. As one of our professional trained instructors you could earn up to £420.16 per week to deliver our standard Bikeability courses involving 20 hours of contact with riders plus time for course administration and travel. Our Bikeability sessions are typically 10.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 15.00, plus travel time. All instructors must train on a 4-day National Standard Instructor course. It is an advantage if you already hold this qualification although not essential as training will be arranged for the right candidates.
So if you are a regular cyclist, have good road sense, are a good communicator and enjoy working outdoors, then this could be just the job for you. If appropriate you will receive further training in First Aid and Cycle Maintenance.
For an informal discussion about these positions please telephone Eric Chasseray, Sustainable Transport Officer on 020 8547 5826 or email eric.chasseray@kingston.gov.uk
The Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton, Citizens Advice and LBS are holding two events to explain about the EU Settlement scheme and the help that they can offer. They will also answer any queries that people may have.
These are taking place on the 5th Dec and 30th January from 5.30 - 7pm at the Civic Offices.
