Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who is sometimes called ‘the princess of polka dots'. Although she makes lots of different types of art – paintings, sculptures, performances and installations – they have one thing in common, DOTS!
Yayoi was born in Japan in 1929. She loved drawing and painting and although her parents didn't want her to be an artist, she was determined. When her mum tore up her drawings, she made more. When she could not afford to buy art materials, she used mud and old sacks to make art. This is a drawing she made of her mum when she was 10-years-old.
Can you create your own Yayoi inspired art?
Mrs Clarke in Nursery would love to see if you do!
Yayoi is currently considered one of the 5 woman artist who changed the world by the Tate- so why not pop up to the Tate Morden in the half term and see what they have to offer.
Year 2 enjoyed their exit point for their topic ‘Time Travellers’ this week.
They were lucky enough to have a Great Fire of London Workshop in to bring all their learning to life.
The children were able to dress up as Londoners and act as different famous people such as King Charles II, Samuel Pepys and Thomas Farriner.
"My favourite part was dressing up as King Charles II and trying to put out the fire with leather buckets." Oscar - Fox Class
"I enjoyed the workshop because I loved dressing up as a Londoner and learning lots of facts about the Great Fire of London." Sophie - Fox Class
"I learnt that there was a town crier who warned people about the huge fire. I also found some rats in my bakery and had to call the rat catcher to get rid of them!" Killian - Fox Class
Today, all the Year 4 pupils collected their Chromebooks.
They spent some time exploring how to login and how to keep safe on the internet.
Enjoy using them over half term. We can't wait to see how you are going to be using them to enhance your learning over the course of the year.
Remember to check out the Home Learning page on the website to find details of your optional projects!

An Elephant in the Garden - Michael Morpurgo
Dresden, 1945. Elizabeth and Karli's mother works at the zoo, where her favourite animal is a young elephant named Marlene. Then the zoo director tells her that the dangerous animals – including the elephants – must be shot before the town is bombed. Unable to give Marlene up, their mother moves her into the back garden to save her… and then the bombs start to fall.
Their home destroyed, the whole family must flee the bombed-out city and through the perilous, snow-covered landscape, all the while avoiding the Russian troops who are drawing ever closer. It would be hard enough to do, without an elephant in tow…

When they got back to school, they explored a mysterious object that had been sent from the rainforest. After a delicious dinner, they settled down to watch a film and have a bed time story.
Well done for being so sensible Year 3 - we hope you had a great time!
