Learning

Our Visitors From Brazil

This week at Cheam Fields we welcomed visitors from British School in Rio, Brazil. They came to see how we are using the International Primary Curriculum and how we link this the the National Curriculum. The visitors toured the school visiting classes in all year groups. They were very impressed with the great IPC work across the school and loved our displays and Learning Journey books. Mrs Mann, our IPC Leader, has been invited to visit their school in Brazil.

Reception Reading and Phonics Workshop

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Reading and Phonics workshop on Wednesday morning. We hope you found it helpful.

If you were unable to attend, please see the slides from the workshop.

Jigsaw

We are continuing our mindful approach to PSHCE with our Jigsaw scheme to develop emotional, social and spiritual development. The focus for this half term is 'Being Me in My World' and looks at children's rights at school, making a better community and caring about others. This week we are celebrating people in our school who work well with others with children being celebrated within each class for showing that quality throughout the week.

Nursery

This week the children in the Nursery loved listening to the story 'Leaf Man'. This inspired them to hunt for leaves and created their very own leaf friends!

Reception

This week the children in Reception have been practising their cutting skills so they can make polar bears as they have been looking at the book 'Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?' They have also concentrated on their listening skills by listening to their teachers and friends.

Pets as Therapy

Year 2 continue their work with our Pets as Therapy visitor Diana and her Read2Dogs friend Nina. Before reading together, the children shared their ‘Dog Diaries’ with Nina - She’s a very good listener! At the end of the session they gave Nina a treat and got some licks of appreciation.

Year 1 Maths

The children in Year 1 have been enjoying outdoor learning during their Maths lessons this week. They have been learning about number bonds using Maths No Problem! part, part, whole.

Year 2

The children in Year 2 enjoyed looking for ageing objects around the school when they took part in their Materials Hunt.

Year 6

The children in Year 6 have been studying explanations texts and completed some great work identifying what makes a good explanation text.

Our recent Parental Questionnaire highlighted communication as an area for improvement. At Cheam Fields we communicate with you in many ways to keep you informed of the events taking place and to provide the information you need to know. This year we have revised the format of our weekly newsletter to make it easier to read on your phone. Each week we list the up and coming dates at the end of the newsletter. We have set out all the known dates until Christmas and will give you as much notice as possible if a date needs to be changed. We also communicate with you via letters home, texts and emails. Another way we communicate with you is through the eSchools phone app. This allows you to receive text style alerts, messages and letters home all in one place. The app also enables us to send you text messages to the app at no cost to us or you! If you haven't already set up the app, please download the app and ask at the office for your login details.

Please help up to keep you up to date with all that's happening at Cheam Fields by reading and keeping the information we send you and by making sure you let us know straight away if you change your contact details.

Sporting opportunities for the children at Cheam Fields...

Tennis Workshop

The Children in Years 1 to 4 they took part in a tennis workshop run by Sutton Tennis and Squash club. They loved learning new skills and developing them in game scenarios. We are very fortunate that they will be setting up a breakfast club in the Spring term for the children in these year groups.

Hockey Tester Sessions

The children in Years 5 and 6 we were very lucky to take part in hockey taster sessions. Chris, from Merton Hockey Club, provided taster sessions on Tuesday morning. There were lots of smiling faces as children developed their knowledge and skills in a new sport.

Try Something New...

New to Cheam Fields this year is the monthly lunchtime competition. Starting next week, children will be able to learn a new sport every month and develop their skills. The first sport is handball!
