Welcome Back Everyone!
We are so pleased to have everyone back at school and would like to say a warm welcome to all the new children who have recently joined us. The school is really looking forward to an exciting year of achievements and new experiences. We want every child to reach their potential and we look forward to working in partnership with you. Don't forget to visit our school website if you would like to find out more information. Click here to view it.
The last couple of months have been challenging for all of us and it has been great to have everybody back in school. We have created a bespoke Recovery Curriculum to support the children to settle back in. This means that for the first half term the whole school will be working on a topic called We are Heroes. The curriculum is founded on research and has been carefully designed to help children rebuild their relationships, recover from their time away from school and re-establish their trust in learning and education. In addition to catching up on learning that they have missed through explicit and targeted teaching, children will have the opportunity to learn about the history, geography and nature of their local area. They will also have the opportunity to express their feelings about the period of lock down and recognise how members of the community have supported each other.
Finally, we would like to say thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we are putting systems into place.
Please do not arrive earlier than your drop off and collection time to avoid unnecessary congestion.
Please remember to keep your distance on the path into school and when when coming to collect your children.
Please do not cross the KS2 barrier when you are collecting at the end of the day.
Please do not let children use the trim trail at the end of the day.
Please do not gather at the top of the Tilehurst Road path or around school at the end of the day.
Please do not to park on the yellow keep clear road markings on Tilehurst Road.
If you arrive early and park up, please turn off your engines while you wait.
No dogs allowed on site.
On Tuesday 8th September, it was the International Day of Literacy. Children completed activities in class and enjoyed an assembly.
Since 1967, International Literacy Day (ILD) celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist with at least 773 million adults worldwide lacking basic literacy skills today. 1 in 8 disadvantaged children in the UK do not own a single book, which will affect them in later life.
On 15th September it is the International Day of Democracy and on 21st September is Peace One Day.
The International Day of Democracy celebrates inclusion, equal treatment and participation in society. Democracy allows people to elect representatives to serve them in government to ensure that their views are heard and their rights are upheld. This day allows people to strive towards Freedom all over the world and ensure that everyone has rights. Click here to find out more about the International Day of Democracy. At LEO, we believe it is very important for everyone’s voice to be heard, which is why we have pupil parliaments. This week you will be able to run for a variety of positions of responsibility and represent the pupils of the school, so we would like to take this opportunity to learn more about Democracy, Human Rights and Children’s Rights.
Since Peace One Day was established, countries that are in conflict have agreed to engage in Peace for one day, to allow people to help those in need, with medical care, vaccinations and to have freedom for the day. Throughout the years, millions of people have been active on Peace Day in every country of the world, and hundreds of organisations have carried out life-saving activities in areas of conflict. Click here to find out more about Peace One Day.

As we are trying to be a healthy school, if you want to bring something in to celebrate your child's birthday we encourage you to avoid sugary items.
You can always bring a healthy snack instead or even buy a book or game for the class to enjoy.
Thank you!
We are very excited to start Battle of the Books again this year!
However, before we can let the battle commence, we would be very grateful if any books with a 'Battle of the Books' sticker on the spine could be returned to school. If you have one of these books at home, please return them to your child's class teacher as soon as possible.
