The YoungMinds Wellbeing Advent Calendar
The lead up to Christmas is a fun and exciting time, but it’s also a busy period that may make some children and young people feel anxious and stressed.
Year 1 to 6 all have a copy of this Wellbeing Advent Calendar, so they can countdown to the festive holidays by taking 5 minutes a day to do an activity that will boost their wellbeing.
This will also provide an opportunity for your pupils to learn activities and exercises that will help them look after their mental health.
The Sun Books For Schools
Get Over £600 Worth Of Free Books For Your School
The Sun has teamed up with HarperCollins to provide primary schools across England, Wales and Northern Ireland a free pack of 106 books, worth more than £600!
The free books included within the packs cover a diverse range of subjects from fairy tales to football, from camping to crocodiles and from wild cats to worms - there is really something for all ages and abilities.
For us to be in with a chance of winning a pack, we need to collect 3,500 tokens that will be printed in The Sun and The Sun on Sunday before January 18th 2020.
You can post your tokens in the box located in the front office!
Plea For Photographs of Endangered Animals
In January, we are going to be working on a piece of art for an art competition all about endangered animals. We would like to use some images of children posing with or around endangered animals.
Do you have any photographs of children with/around endangered animals or just endangered animals?
Examples: Elephants / Pangolins / Rhinos / Tigers / Chimpanzees / Snow Leopards / Lions and Painted dogs
We would of course do our best to return these once the competition has finished.
More information can be found at: https://davidshepherd.org/global-canvas
Please give any photographs to Mr Ansell or hand them into the main office FAO Mr Ansell.

Learning
Year 2 - Science
This week, Year 2 had a visit from Mrs Ludlow and Bluebell the rabbit to help with our topic: Live and Let Live. We have been learning about living things and their habitats.
They investigated how owners are responsible for their pets compared to wild animals who rely on their habitat to survive.
Mrs Ludlow taught us lots of interesting facts about caring for rabbits!
"I learnt that rabbit's teeth do not stop growing so you need to give them hay to grind down their teeth!" Serena
"I learnt that rabbits need to go to the vet to get vaccinations because they may pick up diseases in the garden that make them poorly." Alisha
"I learnt that Bluebell likes to eat lettuce, carrots and cabbages and also enjoys playing in her run with toys." Freddie
Celebrating your Optional Home Learning Projects
Pupils in Jade class shared their projects.
Well done to Sonny, Ruby and Victoria.
Thomas came to show us his poster about Black Panthers - well done Thomas.
Ruby has been getting creative with this Autumn inspired hedgehog - what a good way to recycle a book!
Remember to check out the Home Learning page on the website to find details of your optional projects!
Make sure you come and show Miss Shaw and Mrs Townsend.
Battle of the Books
Year 5
Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer
AT JUST TWELVE YEARS OLD, ARTEMIS FOWL IS A CRIMINAL GENIUS.
No scheme is too dastardly, no plot too devious. And he's just discovered that fairies are real. Poor fairies. But these are not the cuddly creatures of bedtime stories. They are armed. They are dangerous. And when Artemis captures Captain Holly Short for her fairy gold, he messes with the wrong elf.
Holly isn't armed but she's incredibly dangerous, and pretty annoyed with all the kidnapping.
Artemis Fowl is about to find out that fairies fight back . . .
Let the misadventure begin.

Opportunity
CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
INGREDIENTS
150g dark chocolate, chopped
150g milk chocolate, chopped
150ml double cream
50g unsalted butter
cocoa powder, sprinkles, lustre powder, icing sugar, chopped nuts, for coating
flavourless oil (such as sunflower), for shaping
METHOD
Put the dark and milk chocolate in a bowl, then put the cream and butter in a pan and bring to a simmer. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and stir until it melts. Leave to cool, then chill in the fridge for 7 hrs.
Put the coatings into separate bowls. To shape the truffles, lightly rub your hands with flavourless oil and roll teaspoons of the truffle mix between your palms – this can get messy!
Gently roll the truffles in the bowl until evenly coated, then put in a box and chill. Store in the fridge in an airtight container for three days, or freeze for up to a month. Defrost in the fridge overnight.
CASUAL CYCLE INSTRUCTORS
£12.23 - £13.61 per hour
The Sustainable Transport Team is seeking to recruit Cycle Instructors in the Sutton area to deliver Bikeability, the national cycle training programme for children. As one of our professional trained instructors you could earn up to £420.16 per week to deliver our standard Bikeability courses involving 20 hours of contact with riders plus time for course administration and travel. Our Bikeability sessions are typically 10.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 15.00, plus travel time. All instructors must train on a 4-day National Standard Instructor course. It is an advantage if you already hold this qualification although not essential as training will be arranged for the right candidates.
So if you are a regular cyclist, have good road sense, are a good communicator and enjoy working outdoors, then this could be just the job for you. If appropriate you will receive further training in First Aid and Cycle Maintenance.
For an informal discussion about these positions please telephone Eric Chasseray, Sustainable Transport Officer on 020 8547 5826 or email eric.chasseray@kingston.gov.uk
