Learning

Our Ducklings

All six of our ducklings have now hatched and are happy in their new home. The children have enjoyed visiting them. You will be able to watch their progress on our DUCK CAM when they return to school after the weekend.

Year 1 Visit Nonsuch Mansion

Year 1 have visited Nonsuch Manion as the entry point to their IPC topic "Buildings". They learnt about the history of the place and the lives of the family and servants who lived there. With no electricity back then the building had many different features to what we're used to! The children also made sketches of Nonsuch and when they returned to school they developed them into detailed drawings.

Why not ask your child how they used our

Word of the Week?

Year 1: calm

Year 2: glistening

Years 3 & 4: apprehensive

Years 5 & 6: charismatic

Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group’s book list.

This week's book is Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd and is from the Year 1 book list.

The six dogs go out for a walk, but little do they know that Scarface Claw, the toughest tom in town is lurking around the next corner!

The children need to remember to fill in a book review once they have read a book!

Sutton and Cheam Korfball Championships

Sunday 28th April 2019

On Sunday 28th April two year 6 teams played in the above championships at Peaches Close.

Korfball is a new sport to Cheam Fields and the children have worked really hard to learn the rules and how to play the game over the past few weeks ready for this competition. They have attended several before school and after school training sessions with the PE Team and a specialist coaches (Claire Millet and Libby Thomas) from the local korfball club, the Nomads. We are very grateful to them for their expert advice and support.

The children all played fantastically well, with great team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the whole event.

One of our teams made it through to the semi-finals – this was played against Nonsuch Primary. It was a very close match which saw us losing 1-0 when Sam aimed and scored a fantastic goal just seconds before the final whistle!

The game then had to be decided on penalties! Olivia and Sam took the penalties for Cheam Fields – they were fantastic, calm as cucumbers! We won!

We are really excited that Cheam Fields are now through to the National Championships which are held at the Copper box Arena in the Olympic park in June.

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to all the children who took part in the event – we are so proud of all of you.

(if you are interested in playing Korfball, Nomads Korfball club are offering some free taster sessions – Click HERE for details.

We are also running a Korfball club afterschool for Years 4,5 and 6 – if you are interested in your child attending this please speak to Mrs Barry or Mr Woollard.
