October is Black History Month.
Each year group will be focusing on significant individuals from black history throughout October.
As part of our Black History Month learning, Lola (Amethyst) has written a formal letter to Diane Abbot, the first black female MP in England to express her admiration for her fight against inequality.
Well done Lola!
Thank you for all your generous Harvest donations.
On Wednesday, Evie and Jaime (representatives of our School Council) helped deliver them to Epsom and Ewell Foodbank.
Thank you again!
This week, we launched our Financial Literacy project with a ' £20 lesson'.
Children discussed and debated what they would want to buy with £20 versus what they would need to buy. They made money trees.
Look out for more updates as more exciting lessons happen over the course of the year!
At Cheam Fields we are taking part in the five-day Walking Challenge 2020: HEALTH AND WELLBEING.
This year we invite you to join us in celebrating the incredible physical and mental health benefits walking brings to every individual.
Strong hearts, healthy bones, increased muscle strength are all well-documented outcomes of walking, but the benefits for the mind are just as powerful. From Monday 5th October 2020 to Friday 9th October 2020 we will be encouraging children to walk as often as possible to school. Each pupil will be challenged to walk, cycle, scoot or park and stride to school every day for the week. Each child will be able to record how they got to school and work towards earning a badge for their efforts.
We hope that the children enjoy stepping up to this challenge!
The theme of this World Mental Health Day is: The same, but different.
One thing we all have in common is that we all have feelings and we all have mental health. Mental health is just like our physical health, we have to look after our bodies and our minds to be healthy.
One way to support your mental health is doing a muscle relaxation activity. Have a go at one of the activities below and see if you feel more relaxed!
Imagine you have a ball of slime in the palm of each hand.
Breathe in and squeeze the slime as hard as you can.
Breathe out and open your hands letting the slime spread across your hands.
Repeat a few times.
Colour breathing
Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Close your eyes if you wish.
Imagine your favourite colour or the colour which helps you feel calm.
Breathe in and imagine you are breathing in this colour.
As you breathe out, imagine blowing a bubble made of this colour.
