It has been brought to our attention that some of our children have been accessing games that allow them to speak to strangers online. Normally, these games have a .io web address. These have been blocked in school. For your child's safety and wellbeing, we would highly recommend also blocking these games at home.
There are simple instructions on how to do this here.
Please note that there will be no school-run clubs in the week commencing Monday 6th February. This is due to parent consultation evenings being held throughout the week.
All clubs run by external agencies (see below) will be running as usual.
TKD, JDFS, GymKids, Ballet, Flair Sports and Mandarin
The School Council is launching their Toy Swap Shop! This will be taking place on Friday 10th February in the afternoon and run by the School Council. Best of all, everyone can get a new toy, puzzle, book or game for FREE! So how will this work?
Any day during week 6 - week beginning 6/2/23, children can bring in a toy, book, puzzle or game that they no longer want but that is still in good condition.
Their name will be written on the back of a raffle ticket which can be kept safe by their class teacher.
If you want to bring in more than 1 toy, that is fine but you will only be able to choose a second item at the end of the swap shop, not at your class' session.
A number can be written on the back of the raffle ticket to show how many toys were originally brought in.
All toys will be collected on Friday morning and a time slot will be given to each year group to attend the swap shop in the afternoon.
Each child will need their named raffle ticket to ‘buy’ a new item from the swap shop.
Thanks for your help with this.

Well done, Hannah!
See the information below about Planet League. Your child can sign up online and take part in various activities to earn 'goals'. Your child can choose the team that they'd like to represent but we'd appreciate any children that choose to represent our local team, Sutton United.

Do you have any secondhand books or board games that you no longer need? At Cheam Common, we would appreciate donations of any of these items. Books are always appreciated and board games are extremely useful, especially during wet play! Simply drop these into the office or ask your child to hand them to their class teacher. Thank you for your support in advance!

On Friday 3rd February, our whole school celebrated NSPCC Number Day. Children were encouraged to dress up in Maths/number-related outfit. We were so impressed with the creativity and imagination that our children showed!
So far, we have managed to raise £76.09 in school and over £120 on our JustGiving page. There is still time to donate here. Thank you so much!
Our Y5/6 Boys' Football team also represented Cheam Common at a Kids' Cup tournament at AFC Wimbledon. The boys showed togetherness and teamwork throughout the tournament, which culminated in them reaching the final, after winning a penalty shoot-out in the semi finals. The final was a tight match and ended up as a draw, meaning that this game also went to penalties. Cian's heroics in goal meant that the boys won the final and therefore the tournament. They will be representing AFC Wimbledon in the Kids' Cup Regional Finals in March. Well done, boys!
Our Y5/6 Boys' Football Team travelled to Sutton United to compete in our local round of the Kids Cup. The boys played incredibly well and lost out in the semi finals. Particularly impressive performances from from Leo and Roman, who shared the goalkeeping role throughout the afternoon. Well done, boys!
On Tuesday, ten of our Y3/4 girls attended a Sutton Sports Girls' Football tournament. They did amazingly well throughout the entire afternoon and managed to win the entire tournament. This means that they will be representing Sutton at the London Youth Games in March. Well done, girls!
On Thursday, some of our Year 6 children were chosen to represent the school at Sutton Sports Climbing Festival. All children learned a new skill and particularly enjoyed the bouldering!
Two of our students, Silvia and Naomi (6T) are among many of the students who are taking part in the South West London Gang Show, a variety show performed by Scouts and Guides.
Tickets can be purchased here.
On Saturday, you may have seen that Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) held a free 5km running event and invited whoever would like to join along. James (5H) and his family went along and James was able to run and chat with him the entire way around.
What an opportunity!

SEND & Inclusion Updates!
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
