Saturday 13th July, 11am-2pm
We are excited to be celebrating the Cheam Common Summer Fair on Saturday 13th July.
If you are able to give up one hour of your time to volunteer on one of the stalls, we would be incredibly grateful. These events can't run without the kindness of our parents and communities.
If you are interested in volunteering, please see the many options and sign up here.
Mr Greaves, Miss Mills and Miss Eldridge have been busily organising Olympiad events for each year group. Each class has been allocated a country from across the world (see below for your child's class) which they will be representing in the sporting event. If you would like your child to wear that country's colours, that would be wonderful. If that is not possible, please do not worry!
Year 3 had their event this week and every child took part in one event, including football, archery, netball, basketball and athletics. Miss Thatcher's class came out top meaning that 3T and Netherlands were the winners! 🇳🇱
Year 3: Wednesday 26th June ✅
Year 5: Tuesday 2nd July
Year 6: Wednesday 10th July
Year 4: Friday 12th July
Your child should come to school wearing their PE kits on their year group's day.
Monday 24th - Friday 28th June
Thank you to all of the children who have taken part in the London Maths Week Map Design Competition. We will be announcing the winner next week.
Throughout the rest of the term, we will be inviting many children to have a slot on our radio station.
Every week, four Green Ticket winners are chosen to take part in Friday's session.
🎵 Amazon Music 🎵
Pupils across the school started by requesting the songs they would like to be part of the radio station. If any parents would like to donate to our Amazon fund to purchase music for the radio then please gift any amount you can on an Amazon E-Gift Card to ccjradio@leoacademytrust.co.uk. We would be very grateful.
On 12th July, Phoebe (Year 3)'s parents, along with their friends will be participating in a significant fundraiser for the Royal Marsden Hospital. Friends will start by climbing Scafell Pike, followed by cycling approximately 200 miles to Ben Nevis, and then climbing Ben Nevis—all without sleep in between. The Willers will be driving the support vehicle and joining them for the climb up Ben Nevis.
When Reuben was just one, he underwent intensive chemotherapy for a rare form of liver cancer. Now, at five years old, he is at school locally and cancer-free. Our aim is to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and raise at least £10,000.
If you would like to donate, you can do so here. Thank you.
As the weather is warming up, please ensure that children have sunhats and a water bottle in school. Please ensure that children have applied sun cream in the morning.
Uniform reminder
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes, or plain black trainers.
Additionally, a reminder that our PE kit consists of the following items: White T-shirt, red shorts or black/navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Our black training top and bottoms are also optional items in our PE kit.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
🏏 Surrey Cricket Disability Day: Some of our Year 5 children had an incredible time exploring the Kia Oval on Wednesday, taking part in the annual Surrey Cricket Disability Day. We tried different games and activities run by organisations such as Fulham FC, Crystal Palace FC, Harlequins RFC. We were given a tour of the stands and even got to meet Caesar the Lion!
👟 Year 5/6 Quad Kids: Children from Year 6 represented Cheam Common at the Sutton Borough Quad Kids event. Children completed four different athletics events: jumping, sprinting, throwing and long distance running.
⚽ Sutton and Cheam Cup Final: On Wednesday afternoon, our Year 6 Boys' Football Team faced Cheam Park Farm in the final of the Sutton and Cheam Cup. It had been a difficult cup run but we were motivated for the final. However, after going 1-0 down in the first half, we faced an uphill battle. Thankfully, Rashad had a stormer of a half and scored a hat-trick. The game finished 3-1 and we were crowned Sutton and Cheam Cup Winners.
🎥 Year 5 LGfL training: On Thursday, some of our Year 5 digital leaders took part in training on how to use the latest equipment in our Innovation Hub.
🏕 High Ashurst: Our Year 4 children have spent the last two nights in High Ashurst, our Year 4 residential! We have spent the last three days rock climbing, on high ropes, making fires, building dens and playing team-building games. A massive thank you to all members of staff who looked after, challenged and encouraged the children over their time away.
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!
Astrid took part in an incredibly muddy 5km race, in order to raise money for Cancer Research, in memory of close member of her family. She has raised an incredible £195 (it's not too late to donate here).
Last weekend, Shriya participated in a dance show with Suzanne's Theatre Dance School. She took part in both ballet and street dance performances. Well done, Shriya!

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
Please click here to access the Local Authority's Ambitious for SEND parent newsletter to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. To receive these newsletters (three produced each year) please subscribe to the local area Ambitious for SEND newsletter. It is a great way to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area.
