Today, we were sad to say a (temporary) goodbye to Miss Austin, who is starting her maternity leave from tomorrow.
All children had an opportunity to say goodbye in assembly today. We are sure parents will join us in saying thank you, good luck and goodbye to Miss Austin!
Thank you to the families who brought in donations for DONS Local Action Group today. It is incredible to see such empathy being demonstrated and modelled to our children.
We are hoping to organise food bank donations dropoffs weekly in the summer term. However, this would require a few helpful volunteers to collect and organise these donations.
If you are interested in giving up a little time and would like us to put you in touch with these organisers, please complete this short Google Form.
Thank you in advance!

Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
Thank you to Thea's family (4I) for their donation of 'A Different Sort of Normal'.
🏃🏽♀️ Year 3 Cross Country: On Thursday morning, twenty of our Year 3 children travelled to Beddington Cricket Club to take part in the Sutton Schools Year 3 Cross Country event. We are so proud of all twenty children, who are crossed the finishing line still running - which was our primary aim! A further congratulations to the following children who managed to finish in the top three!
🥇 Issy 🥈Rosie and George 🥉 Norden
🏏 Geoff Richards Cricket Trophy: On Thursday afternoon, our Year 5/6 Cricket Team took part in the Geoff Richards Cricket Trophy. They managed to finish second in their group, taking down one independent school on their way. An outstanding effort!
⚽ Year 6 Boys' B Football: We travelled to play against Brookfield on Friday afternoon in a LEO derby match. Our boys came away with an 11-0 win!
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
Please click here to access the Local Authority's Ambitious for SEND parent newsletter to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. To receive these newsletters (three produced each year) please subscribe to the local area Ambitious for SEND newsletter. It is a great way to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area. We invite applications from all enthusiastic young singers and performers aged 7 to 11 years old. We particularly welcome applications from boys, those who are from a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are under-represented within our programmes. Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
1. a passion for and commitment to singing and good vocal control.
2. an interest in drama and performing skills.
3. the ability to collaborate well with others and follow direction.
How to apply?
Please head to our website - all details on how to apply can be found here
Round 1 audition (Sat 20 July): successful applicants will be invited to a one-hour audition workshop at the Royal Opera House.
Round 2 audition (Sun 21 July): successful applicants from the round 1 auditions will be invited to attend a call back audition, during which the final selections will be made.
What to expect at an in-person audition
Children invited to attend in-person auditions will join 30 other children for a one-hour workshop. This will be led by two of our ROH artists who will run music and drama-based games and singing activities. We aim for our audition workshops to be fun, friendly, and relaxed, and regardless of the outcome, educational and enjoyable for all.
