School Updates
Can you design our wild garden?
As you walk to school every day, you may have noticed the small outdoor space that we have outside some of the Year 6 classrooms. For the last few years, this space has been ignored and has been allowed to turn into an uninspiring piece of land, with little benefit to nature. And now, we need your help!
Children - we are looking for some inspiration for this outdoor space and we'd like to offer you the chance to design it! Take a look at these garden design ideas to help you. If you are interested in helping, please take an entry sheet from your class teacher (you may take more than one if you'd like!) We would like this area to be an oasis for both children and nature and are seeking designs from children who will think about how best to achieve this!
Deadline: End of the term (Friday 16th December)
Adults - in the new year, we will be looking for volunteers from our local community to help revitalise this space. This may involve giving up some time at a weekend to help dig up, plant, and generally help transform this outdoor space. Watch this space for more information!
Year 3 Drumming Showcase
As you are aware, the Year 3 children have been busy practising their drumming skills this
term. The children have been working very hard to create a drumming piece to perform to you all. We would like to invite you to come to a year group drumming performance. At this time, you will be able to see your child’s class, and the rest of the classes in the year, perform the drumming piece they have been working so hard on.
The performance will take place in the hall on Tuesday 29th November. It will commence at 2.15pm. You will be able to come in from 2.00pm to ensure we have a prompt start. The performance will last for approximately 45 minutes. If you are unable to attend, please do not worry, we will also film the performances and share them with you.
A new club for January: Tae Kwon Do!
We are extremely excited to welcome a new club to Cheam Common Juniors, which will be starting in January. TKD is a Tae Kwon Do club, specifically aimed at 7-11 year olds, which has been running successfully at other LEO schools.
During the first week back after the Christmas holidays, TKD will be running an assembly to show children what they could learn at these sessions.
Information about how to join this club will be re-shared when we share information about how to sign up for clubs in the next few weeks. It will also be re-shared after the assembly that children will watch in January. However, if you are confident that your child will enjoy this club, email hello@london-tkd.co.uk, stating that you are emailing from Cheam Common Juniors and that you are interested in signing up. Alternatively, visit their website for more information or see the flyer below for more information!
Doodle: Winter Challenge
The Doodle Winter Challenge is back, where children can earn virtual rewards by Doodling daily! Between the 1st and 24th December, children can unlock doors on Doodle Maths and English by earning stars. You can find out more information here. Good luck!
Thank you for your Christmas Food Bank donations!
This morning, lots of families donated Christmas-related items to us in response to the Friends of Cheam Common's appeal for Epsom and Ewell Food Bank. This was delivered later in the day. Thank you so much!
Secondhand books and board games
Do you have any secondhand books or board games that you no longer need? At Cheam Common, we would appreciate donations of any of these items. Books are always appreciated and board games are extremely useful, especially during wet play! Simply drop these into the office or ask your child to hand them to their class teacher. Thank you for your support in advance!
Weekly School and Sporting News Stories
Year 6 Pupil Leadership Roles
Over the next few weeks, we would like to introduce some of the pupils who have taken up our Year 6 Pupil Leadership roles.
This week, we would like to introduce our new Heads of the Learning Council: Anne and Ezel. These children regularly meet with Miss Holloway and help her run the weekly Learning Council sessions. This pupil voice groups help gather feedback from their classes about how to improve teaching and learning across the school. Throughout the year, they will meet with teachers who lead subjects across the school, and discuss ways in which children want to improve these areas.
⭐ Lilly-Rose: Charity Superstar! ⭐
Lilly-Rose (3A) decided that she wanted to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. Over the weekend, she sold coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks to raise money for this incredible charity. She and her family wanted to say thank you to the Royal Marsden for all the amazing work they do.
Well done, Lilly-Rose! We are incredibly proud of you.

SEND & Inclusion Updates!
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
