Cheam Common Junior Academy: Parent Survey

We would like to invite all parents to take part in our parent survey. We appreciate the feedback of those parents who have already completed it.

Homework - well done, 6W!

We are so impressed by the incredible homework that is handed in every week. Here is a selection of photos of the imaginative homework that children in 6W have submitted this term!

We look forward to sharing another class's efforts next week.

Homework Matrixes can be found below:

Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6

Our Pyjama Campaign for Kington and St George's Hospitals

This year, for the second year in a row, we will be supporting Children's Hospital Pyjamas.

For the next three weeks, we will be collecting donations of pyjamas to send across to either Kingston and St George's Hospital in time for Christmas.

You can find out more about the campaign by clicking the link above.

We will also be collecting cash donations on the gate every morning if that is an easier alternative in order to support the charity.

Secondhand Uniform

If you are in need of any free secondhand uniform, please email ccjoffice@leoeacademytrust.co.uk and we can help organise this for you.

Our Rudolph Run Campaign

On Friday 15th December, we will be taking part in the Rudolph Run, in order to support St Raphael's Hospice.

Children will be taking part in a festive run in the afternoon - we would appreciate any donations that you can spare.

Donations can be made here.

Head Lice

We have received a recent report of head lice in Year 3 & 6.

Whilst lice are nothing more than a nuisance, it is important that children are checked on a weekly basis so that any head lice can be dealt with quickly and before they are allowed to spread.

We suggest that you check your child’s head as soon as possible. Here is some simple advice you may wish to follow to keep head lice outbreaks to a minimum:

Thank you!

Our free school lunches

As we all know, a nutritious meal is essential for a child's growth and development. That's why the Mayor of London's initiative to provide free school meals to all Key Stage 2 children in state-funded schools is such a welcome addition to our school community.

Since the introduction of this program, we've been delighted to see an increase in the number of children taking up the opportunity to enjoy a hot, healthy lunch at school. For years 5 and 6 we introduced a Grab and Go option as an alternative to a hot lunch.  We encourage all parents to consider taking advantage of this valuable program. Your child will receive a healthy meal, and you'll save money on your household budget.

We believe that every child deserves access to a nutritious meal, and we're proud to support the Mayor of London's initiative to make free school meals a reality for all Key Stage 2 children in London. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this free and healthy meal option. We're confident that they'll enjoy it! Our full menu can be found here.

We always welcome feedback on your menu. If you would like to give some feedback please do so here

Maggie's at the Marsden Christmas Carol Concert

We are delighted that our Choir will be performing at the Maggie's at the Royal Marsden Christmas Carol Concert. If you would like to purchase tickets, you can do so by following this link.

Our Book Wishlist

Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.

We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!

It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.

Young Carers at Cheam Common

At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.

The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.

If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.

If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk

Any of Us: Surrey Fostering Campaign

If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that first step and find out more. The more people who consider fostering, the greater the chance of finding loving, stable homes for children in Surrey who desperately need them.

You can contact Surrey County Council Fostering Service on 0800 096 9626, via email at fostering.recruitment@surreycc.gov.uk or by visiting the website; www.surreycc.gov.uk/fostering

Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can transform the lives of both the children being fostered and the foster carers themselves. Children who enter the care system have often experienced trauma and instability in their lives, and a caring, stable foster family can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and development.

Nationally, there are currently over 70,000 children living with foster families in the UK. However, there is still a significant shortage of foster carers, with around 9,265 new foster families needed in the next year alone. In Surrey, there are over 1,000 children in care and Surrey County Council have just under 400 foster families.

Foster carers come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fostering. Whether you are single or married, young or old, own your own home or rent, you can still become a foster carer. The most important thing is a willingness to provide a safe and loving home for a child in need.

This is the message that Surrey County Council is promoting in national recruitment film ‘Any of Us’. The short film has been jointly funded by over 80 councils across England and aims to raise awareness about fostering, particularly among those people who may not have previously considered themselves suited to fostering. The film looks at the potential of three people from different backgrounds to become foster carers, and the potential of children they care for to grow and thrive.
