Big Walk and Wheel 2023

Get set… we’re taking part in Sustran’s Big Walk and Wheel 2023 the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from this coming Monday for 2 weeks from 20-31 March. It’s free and we would love everyone to be involved.

What do you need to do?

Encourage your child(ren) to walk, use a wheelchair, scoot or cycle to school on as many days as possible during the event.

Bike Bus!

This would be a good opportunity to encourage more children to ride their bikes or go on their scooters to school during that week. The Bike Bus can be an opportunity for parents and children to ride together to school and, hopefully, an incentive to do it regularly.

This date has changed to Friday 31st March due to part of the route not being open this week. On Friday 31st March, parents of Cheam Common Juniors are organising a Bike Bus to encourage more children to ride their bikes or go on their scooters to school during the Big Walk and Wheel. The Bike Bus can be an opportunity for parents and children to ride together to school and, hopefully, an incentive to do it regularly.

How it will work:

Please see the map below for more details.

Red Nose Day - thank you!

Last week, we managed to raise £778.65 for Comic Relief, due to donations from our families. Thank you all for raising this amount for an extremely worthy cause.

Sutton United Trials - boys and girls

Football trials for next season's Sutton United Colts boys teams are starting very soon, so if your son or daughter would like to play for Sutton United, please register your interest below this week!

Sutton United Colts is the grassroots section affiliated with Sutton United Football Club, and has 20 teams playing between the U7 and U16 age groups. Sutton United Colts teams play in the Surrey Youth League on a Sunday morning, and at the competitive age groups, most teams play in the top Premier Elite Division.

The Colts strive to offer the very best standard of football outside of a professional academy environment, and aim to give the players who excel, and want it, a pathway into the professional game.

With that in mind, Colts games are regularly watched by professional academy scouts from the Sutton United Academy, as well as other professional academies from the Premier League, Championship, and beyond.

Trials start soon so register on the link above to avoid disappointment.

SEND & Inclusion Updates!

All Aboard Club @ Cheam Fields

Friday 31st March

All Aboard Club is running two after-school play sessions for autistic and ADHD children at Cheam Fields Primary Academy on Friday 31st March.

Tickets are free but must be booked in advance here.

At our play sessions, the children are in charge. They can run the trains, build the track, and sort out any problems. It builds their confidence, reduces their anxiety, and allows them to play for hours, while developing their social and communication skills.

All Aboard Club staff and volunteers have lived experience of autism and ADHD, so we understand the children's challenges. We do everything possible to make the sessions as accessible and inclusive as possible for each and every child.

Our sessions are suitable for children and siblings aged 4 and upwards. A parent or adult carer needs to stay for the whole session.

If you’d like a chat about our play sessions and your child’s specific needs, please call us on 07948 407343 or email info@allaboardclub.com

Young Carers at Cheam Common

At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.

The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.

If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.

If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
