School Updates

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March. This is due to the planned NEU Industrial Action on Thursday 2nd March. We did not want any children to miss out due to strike action so have made the decision to celebrate on the Friday.

We are inviting all children to dress up as their favourite book character next Friday - we cannot wait to see their outfits!

LEO Competition - Story in a shoebox

We are inviting children to create a story in a shoebox. Bring to life a scene from your favourite book or a memorable moment and transform it into a decorative diorama. Grab yourself an old shoebox, coloured paper pens, pencils and even paint and start creating a 3D scene. Please bring them into school - we'd love to see them!

New Homework Matrixes

Please see our updated Homework Matrixes for Spring 2. We have added some extra activities that your children may wish to complete, including some World Book Day-themed activities.

SDG Finalists - BETT 2023

We are incredibly proud to announce that we are finalists in the Design 4 SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). Our Digital Leaders have designed a project for the SDG: Good Health and Well-being. They will be attending the BETT Show on Friday 31st March to see the winners being announced.

Stay tuned to hear more about their project! More information about Design4SDGs can be found here.

Secondhand books and board games

Do you have any secondhand books or board games that you no longer need?  At Cheam Common, we would appreciate donations of any of these items. Books are always appreciated and board games are extremely useful, especially during wet play! Simply drop these into the office or ask your child to hand them to their class teacher. Thank you for your support in advance!

Weekly School and Sporting News Stories

Tanzii TV come to visit!

On Wednesday, we were visited by Ottavio and Dario (a.k.a. Tanzii TV). The children had an exciting and fitness-filled assembly in the morning, followed by workouts in classes and year groups. As 5G had been following Tanzii TV for some time, they were invited to be filmed in their classrooms doing a workout. Some of our children even had personalised workouts and were filmed for Tanzii TV's Youtube Channel. We'll keep you updated when these videos are posted.

Check out a recap of the day here!

Y5/6 Netball League Match

On Thursday afternoon, our Y5/6 Netball Team travelled to Barrow Hedges to take part in their next league match. Last year, we were promoted to the higher borough league so we knew that the opposition would be tough! Both our A team and B team games were incredibly tough and end to end, however our A team managed to win 6-5 and our B team managed a 2-1 win! All of the girls showed incredible determination and we are incredibly proud of him. Well done!

Y3/4 Climbing Festival

Ten of our Year 3 and 4 children were chosen by their teachers to attend a Y3/4 Climbing Festival earlier this week. This was due to their fantastic behaviour in class and acting as role models for their peers. These children were introduced to a number of games and skills, and had a go on the bouldering walls. Well done, everyone!

Thinking Day

On Wednesday, some of our children celebrated World Thinking Day. This is a day for Scouts, Guides,  Girl Scouts and anyone in the Scouting community to think of others around the world, and demonstrate empathy and gratitude. Children are encouraged to wear their uniform to school to celebrate Thinking Day.

DfE Filming

On Thursday, we were visited by the Department for Education, who were filming a short film about our Chromebook Programme and how we use assistive technology to support our pupils. Miss Govier and some pupils in 5G took part in filming.

SEND & Inclusion Updates!

Young Carers at Cheam Common

At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.

The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.

If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.

If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
