School Updates

Wishing all of our families a happy new year and a warm welcome back to Cheam Common.

Goodbye, Miss Kay!

After 4 years at Cheam Common Junior Academy, Miss Kay bids us farewell this week. She is off to explore a new exciting career opportunity starting next week. Miss Kay has worked with every year group in the school, attended countless trips and residential trips, and has even run her own Dance Club this year. We know every child and member of staff will be sad to see her go. We wish her the best of luck and thank her for everything!

Clubs, Year 6 Tuition and Year 4 Swimming

A reminder that all clubs, Year 6 tuition and Year 4 swimming lessons are starting next week.

7:45am clubs and tuition

Children should be brought to the school office no earlier than 7:40am.

3:15pm clubs and tuition

Children will be directed to their club at the end of the day. Children should be picked up from the school car park at 4:15pm.

4:30pm clubs

Children should be picked up from the school office at 5:30pm. This is due to the car park being very dark at this point.

Please note that there are waiting lists for most of our clubs. If your child can no longer attend, please let us know so that we can give their space to another child.

Cheerleading

This club takes place in the Worcester Park Scout Hut (Balmoral Road). Children will be walked down to the Scout Hut at 3:15pm by Miss Brooks and Miss Mills at 3:15pm and should be collected from the Scout Hut at 4:30pm. If children are not collected by 4:40pm, if they have after-school club, or a 4:30pm club, they will be walked back up to school by staff.

TKD Club: Monday mornings

Thank you, Friends of Cheam Common

We are so thankful to the Friends of Cheam Common for buying us a brand-new Reading Shed.

We are excited to launch the Reading Shed on Monday. Children will be able to borrow books for the duration of break and lunch time.

A massive thank you to the children of 6S, who have helped to label and organise these books.

Our Book Wishlist

Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.

We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!

It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.

Weekly School and Sporting News Stories

This week at Cheam Common:

🏛 Year 5 Natural History Museum: Our Year 5 children took a trip to the Natural History Museum to kick off their new science topic: Existing, Endangered and Extinct.

If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!

Dexter (Year 6)

Dexter has recently joined the Kestrels Athletics Club in Kingston, where he is already on his way to earning his first badges in sprints, hurdles and shot put. Well done, Dexter!

Hannah (Year 3)

We love seeing the arts and crafts that you create at home. Hannah recycled an egg box and used it to create this incredible volcano landscape.

Young Carers at Cheam Common

At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.

The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.

If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.

If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
