We would like to thank every child who submitted their designs for the CCJ Radio logo competition. We will spend some time narrowing down the entries and will ask the children to vote for their favourite, ready for September.
Below are just some of the hundreds of entries that we received:
Throughout the rest of the term, we will be inviting many children to have a slot on our radio station.
Every week, four Green Ticket winners are chosen to take part in Friday's session.
🎵 Amazon Music 🎵
Pupils across the school started by requesting the songs they would like to be part of the radio station. If any parents would like to donate to our Amazon fund to purchase music for the radio then please gift any amount you can on an Amazon E-Gift Card to ccjradio@leoacademytrust.co.uk. We would be very grateful.
We have made the decision to move the Year 3 Open Afternoon from Monday 17th June to Wednesday 19th June. This is due to the clash with our Year 3 children swimming. Information about timings will be emailed nearer the time.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
On Tuesday 18th June, we will be holding our class photos. Please ensure that your children are in full school uniform on this day, including school shoes and their jumper or cardigan.
If your child has PE or Forest School on that day, please could children bring this kit in with them.
We will also be taking photos of Orchestra Club and Maths Club.
As the weather is warming up, please ensure that children have sunhats and a water bottle in school. Please ensure that children have applied sun cream in the morning.
Uniform reminder
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes, or plain black trainers.
Additionally, a reminder that our PE kit consists of the following items: White T-shirt, red shorts or black/navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Our black training top and bottoms are also optional items in our PE kit.
Year 4: High Ashurst Parent Meeting
Year 6: Isle of Wight Parent Meeting
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.
☀️ Year 6 Residential: Our Year 6 children have been enjoying their week in the Isle of Wight. Group 1 left on Sunday and arrived back on Thursday evening. Our second group left early on Thursday morning and are due back on Monday. They enjoyed bodyboarding, fossil hunting, a trip to Blackgang Chine, meeting wallabies and taking part in the aqua park at Tapnell Farm, as well as much much more. What a way to celebrate all of the hard work that has been put in this year!
🏏 Connellan Trophy: On Monday, on our INSET Day, Mr Greaves took members of our Year 6 Cricket Team to Cheam Cricket Club to take part in the Connellan Trophy tournament. The boys played so well all afternoon and managed to secure second place. Well done, boys!
🏏 Dynamo Cricket Competition: On Wednesday afternoon, some of our Year 5 and 6 girls took part in the Dynamo Cricket Competition at Purley Sports Club. We can't wait for many more cricket competitions this year.
🥏 Ultimate Frisbee: On Thursday afternoon, some of our Year 3 and 4 children took part in an Ultimate Frisbee competition at Carshalton Boys College. It was fun to learn a new skill and to work on our teamwork.
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk
Please click here to access the Local Authority's Ambitious for SEND parent newsletter to stay in touch with what is happening in the local area.
