We are very pleased that our teaching staff is extremely stable for next year. We are delighted to welcome Mrs Judge and Miss Harland back from Maternity Leave as well as welcoming Mr Hollaway to the Cheam Common teaching team on a permanent basis.
As you all know, Mr Greaves joined us at Easter as our Sports' Coach. We are pleased that our Sports’ team is expanding and that he will be joined by Mr Honeysett, Miss Mills and Miss Eldridge this academic year.
However, as always at this time of year, we say farewell to some of our current team. Miss Fox will be leaving us after two years to go travelling. We wish her all the best on her adventures: her enthusiasm, passion and care will be greatly missed at Cheam Common. We also say farewell to Mrs Kamali who we welcomed back this term from maternity leave. Mrs Kamali is going to spend some time with her daughter. Mrs Kamali has been an asset to Cheam Common, always going above and beyond and her caring and kind nature will be missed.
The Friends Summer Fair is coming up soon - Saturday, 15th July. We have a fun day of games and activities planned for our wonderful Cheam Common families and we hope you will join us.
In order to make the day happen though, we need your help! We are looking for volunteers to help us set up, run the stalls and help clear up at the end.
The fair will run from 11am - 2pm. Set up will be from 9am and clear-up will be once the fair is finished.
Please use the sign-up sheet here https://volunteersignup.org/3YRXM to indicate the slots you are able to cover. They are split into sessions of one hour but if you can do more, please sign up for all you can offer.
When choosing your slot, note that the KS1 and KS2 choirs will be performing for about 20mins at 12.15 so if your child is singing, you may wish to bear that in mind when choosing your slots. If your Year 6 child wishes to sign up to help run a stall, they are very welcome to do so but we ask that you join them also.
To say thank you for helping us on the day, all volunteers will be entered into their own raffle! If you have any questions, please contact us at Friends_CCA@outlook.com.
The postponed Year 3 & 4 Sports Day will now take place on the afternoon of Monday 17th July.
Parents are invited to join us down at the Scout Hut from 1pm. There will be a designated parent area to observe from. The Sports Day will last until approximately 3pm.
Please ensure children come dressed in their PE kit and preferably, with a top the colour of their house. They will require a water bottle for the day too, as well as weather-appropriate items, e.g. suncream, sunhat.
Pine Elm Willow Oak
Please note that After School Club provision will close at 5pm on Friday 21st July.
The end of the normal school day will be 2:05pm.
Hello Sutton Schools!
Each year we offer children of the borough the chance to design our lights for the town centre and participate in our 'switch-on' event where they get to pull the plunger and see their lights come on!
This year we have launched our design competition and the theme is ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ in reference to Alice in Wonderland. We are asking children to use their imagination and draw what ever they want for us to take and make for them.
The competition closes on Friday 21st July at which time 20 designs will be chosen by us and our manufacturer, Field and Lawn.
We would love it if the children of your school would be involved in this. They can use the entry form (attached) or simply draw and submit the design either via email to patricia.park@successfulsutton.co.uk or via post to Successful Sutton, Market House, 216-220 High Street, Sutton, SM1 1NU.
The entry must include name, age and contact details for parent/guardian.
Entrants can be any age up to 18.
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.

At the weekend, Elizabeth (4CB) competed in a cheerleading competition for her team. They managed to win first place and were even named 'Royal Champions' across the entire competition. Well done, Elizabeth - we are so proud of you!
On Sunday, Bethany (4I) took part in a gymnastics competition. She competed in a variety of events and managed to win them both: floor routine and vault!

Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk

‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.'
We are also looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below. If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
