On Thursday 23rd January, the Year 4 Digital Leaders were lucky enough to join thousands of people at the BETT show at the ExCel London. When we arrived at North Greenwich, we were greeted by Mr Hedger and Mr Macaulay who took us to the centre in style: by the Emirates air line cable car! We soared over the river with extraordinary views of London. Finally, we were there. We were given our special lanyards with our names on to get in to this exclusive event. We then spent some time exploring lots of technology stalls. Our favourites were the lego coding stall, the VR headsets, Now Press Play and of course our friends at Google who were so pleased to listen to all the great things that we have been up to. Feeling hungry, it was time for lunch. Mr Hedger treated us to pizza and pasta! Yum! After that, we were lucky to meet the CEO of LGFL as well as talking to people of Adobe. We then walked up to the conference room where we presented our Google experience to other people who were interested in our Chromebook programme. Throughout the day, we picked up lots of amazing freebies and goodies that we are now able to keep to remember such a fantastic day! By Xavier and Vasu
Yesterday 32 excited children were introduced to our brand-new Maths Club. The group will focus on shape puzzles, number games and code breaking challenges to help develop confidence, problem solving skills and most importantly, enjoyment of maths.
After running activities in school, we will select a team of our top mathematicians to represent us in the Regional Heats of the Mayor of London Fund’s Count on Us challenge. Qualifying teams are then invited to City Hall for the final events in the summer term.
We look forward to seeing what we get up to each week - Good Luck!
Tuesday 11th February and Thursday 13th February 2020
We are holding our Spring Term Parent Teacher Consultation Evenings on Tuesday 11th February and Thursday 13th February.
Please book an appointment online via the link:
https://cheamcommonjunior.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/
The website will go live on Monday 27th January at 9am.
Appointments are available on Tuesday 11th February between 4pm & 8pm and on Thursday 13th February between 3.30pm & 6pm.
Please note that if you will be unable to attend either of the Parents Consultation Evenings, please contact your child’s class teacher prior to the day to organise an alternative appointment. It is essential that all parents/children have a progress meeting.
Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be running in the school hall on these days. Every book we sell earns the school rewards to purchase more books for our classroom libraries. Please support our school and buy as many books as you can!
Please be aware that there will be no parking or entry on Kingsmead Avenue starting from Monday 3rd February, lasting for all of February due to roadworks and a partial road closure. Please allow plenty of time for your journey to school in order to park on surrounding roads. Where possible, please walk, cycle or scoot to school during this time.
Please see further details below. These are also on display in the School Office.
If you wish to give any feedback to the council during this time follow the link below:

Here is our weekly attendance round up, with figures for each class this week. Our target for our attendance is 97%.
Well done to 3B, 6K, 6C, 4H and 3L for their ‘gold’ attendance.
We hope we can get each class to a 'green' level of attendance for next week.
As the winter weather continues, lots of children may develop colds and coughs. Wherever possible, please send your child to school. Most often, once the school day is underway, children perk up. If they are too unwell to be at school, a member of the school office would contact home.
Please remember that our school gates close at 8:45am. Children who arrive after this time are missing a significant amount of learning time in the classroom as they begin fluency activities from the moment they arrive.
If you would like to discuss any issues with regards to attendance then please see Miss Gunner.
On Friday 7th February, our PTA will be running a Disco for children across the school. Please make a note of this date in your diary.
Year 3 and 4: 3:30-5:00pm
Year 5 and 6: 5:30-7:00pm
Tickets are £5 each and can be purchased from the school playground after school or from the School Office before school.
We hope to see many of you there!
Next Friday our School Council will be holding a Bring and Buy Sale in the school hall to raise money for endangered animals.
This brilliant event for a fantastic cause is only possible with your voluntary contributions. From Monday 27th January please send in with your child any unwanted presents and old toys (that are in good condition). The School Council will collate all of the donations and price them up, ready to be sold.
The ‘Bring and Buy’ will take place in the hall between 3.15-3.45pm on Friday 31st January. We look forward to seeing you come along and supporting the school.
On Wednesday our Mandarin Club celebrated Chinese New Year by taking part in a Chinese Dance Workshop at Brookfield Primary before their usual weekly mandarin lesson. They had a great afternoon with Education Group exploring the traditions of Chinese culture using a traditional Chinese dragon and fans as they performed an exciting dance.

The Beast of Buckingham Palace by David Walliams
David Walliams is back with a brand-new addition to his growing collection of children’s stories. Filled with his trademark comical humour and over-the-top adventurous antics, ‘The Beast of Buckingham Palace’ is sure to please both old and new fans alike. Unlike his previous books, this is David Walliams first foray into the realms of science fiction and fantasy, which in turn proves to be an unqualified triumph.
Set in the year 2120, Alfred, a young price, has been residing in his palatial home of Buckingham Palace, never knowingly stepping foot into the outside world. However, when a series of spooky and strange goings-on breach the walls and stalk the corridors during the dead of the night, Albert is thrust into a world of mystery, adventures and monsters. As the young monarch overcomes his fears, his mother, the Queen, is dragged and imprisoned within the Tower of London. Suddenly, Albert finds himself in a race against time to pluck up the courage and not only save his mother, battle fantastic monsters hell-bent on destruction but the city that he has never stepped foot in before.
Like all of David Walliams books, ‘The Beast of Buckingham Palace’ is a must-read from start to finish for all the family!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!

Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan, then fry the burgers for 4-5 minutes each side until really crisp and golden.
