Sports Day
Tuesday 20th June
On Tuesday 20th June, we will be running our Sports Day at the Scout Hut.
Year 3 and 4: Approximately 9:30 - 11:30am
Year 5 and 6: Approximately 1-3pm
Children should wear a top of their house colour. If you are unsure of your child's house, this can be found on Arbor.
Elm = Green Willow = Yellow Oak = Red Pine = Blue
They should also bring a water bottle and weather-dependent clothing and items (e.g. suncream, sunhat). Parents are welcome to come along and spectate. However, we do ask that they stay in their allocated area for safeguarding reasons.
There will be some parent races at the end of the session - please come prepared if you would like to join in!
Lost Scooters
Before half term, Barney (Year 4) lost his scooter at school. It is a silver Micro scooter which has his name on. We are sure that Barney is desperate to have it back. If your child scoots to school, please check that they have the correct scooter as there are lots that have been left behind. If found, please return this to the school office or to the scooter rack at the front of school.
Reef (Year 4) has also lost his scooter from the same area. Please keep an eye out for it around school and ensure that your child hasn't accidentally taken it.
Parking reminder at drop-off and pick-up
We are strongly urging parents to think carefully about where they are parking at drop-off and pick-up. Residents along Kingsmead Avenue (especially those out of the Sutton Safe Streets Scheme) are repeatedly having their driveways blocked during these times; this can caused neighbours to miss appointments and meetings in recent weeks.
We thank parents for abiding by the Sutton Safe Streets regulations and for keeping the area directly outside of our school building safe for our children.

Body Coach: Meals on a Budget
Last week, Joe Wicks (a.k.a. The Body Coach) released a free PDF full of healthy, tasty meals that families can cook on a budget. There are 18 reciples included that cost £1 (or under) per serving. This document can be found here.
Volunteers needed for Summer Fair
The Friends Summer Fair is coming up soon - Saturday, 15th July. We have a fun day of games and activities planned for our wonderful Cheam Common families and we hope you will join us.
In order to make the day happen though, we need your help! We are looking for volunteers to help us set up, run the stalls and help clear up at the end.
The fair will run from 11am - 2pm. Set up will be from 9am and clear-up will be once the fair is finished.
Please use the sign-up sheet here https://volunteersignup.org/3YRXM to indicate the slots you are able to cover. They are split into sessions of one hour but if you can do more, please sign up for all you can offer.
When choosing your slot, note that the KS1 and KS2 choirs will be performing for about 20mins at 12.15 so if your child is singing, you may wish to bear that in mind when choosing your slots. If your Year 6 child wishes to sign up to help run a stall, they are very welcome to do so but we ask that you join them also.
To say thank you for helping us on the day, all volunteers will be entered into their own raffle! If you have any questions, please contact us at Friends_CCA@outlook.com.
LEO Arts Week
If you are interested in designing a poster to advertise the LEO Arts Week Exhibition, please see the details on the poster here!
All entries can be brought to Miss Maclean by Monday 26th June.
Our Book Wishlist!
Children across the school wrote a wishlist of the different books that they would like to see in their library and their classrooms.
We have collated this wishes and have put together an Amazon Wish List, which can be found here. If parents and families wish, there are over a hundred books that children are desperate to read on the list and these can be ordered as a present to our school. Alternatively, if you notice a book on the list that your children no longer read, we are always grateful for any donations!
It has also been suggested by our children that, on a birthday, rather than bringing sweets in for their classmates, children choose a book on the list that they would like to donate to their class. This also falls in line with our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. On the order, there is an option to leave a message - you can specify which class the book is for. As ever, we recognise that money can be tight so please note that this is entirely optional. Any support is always appreciated.

SEND & Inclusion Updates
Young Carers at Cheam Common
At Cheam Common Junior Academy, we hold a weekly small group session to support children across the school who fulfil the role of ‘Young Carer’ because they have a sibling or parent with serious health issues, special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
We want to celebrate the important role our Young Carers play, but also recognise that they may face challenges and pressures not shared by the general school population.
The group meets during assembly time and is led by Mrs Hart.
If you would like your child to take part please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the group, please feel free to contact us at ccjsend@leoacademytrust.co.uk

‘Small Change, Big Difference’ Parent Group for parents of children with a diagnosis of autism.'
We are also looking to host another Small Change, Big Difference course with Adapt to Learn. For those that are unfamiliar with this course, we run this as an alternative to the Early Bird programme. Some information about this is below. If you are interested in attending this course, please email: sutton@nas.org.uk and we'll be in touch.
The aim is to empower parents, supporting them to help their children by developing an in-depth understanding of autism. Taking a positive approach, we will explore, share and discuss practical strategies to help develop communication skills, pre-empt and manage behaviour and gain confidence and resilience.
During the sessions, parents will be given the opportunity to make connections, gain support and feel less isolated.
Each course comprises of four x 1.5-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics.
