Today, the Sutton Primary League Tables were released for 2019. Cheam Common Junior Academy are delighted to be at the top of this list based on our 2019 KS2 Results. This is another huge achievement by the school. Congratulations to the staff and children for such a successful year. Thank you to our families for your continued support in all we do to offer the very best education for the children.
We are also very pleased that LEO schools Manor Park and Cheam Park Farm are in 2nd and 3rd position.
You can view the Sutton Primary League Tables here.
After reaching finals at Birmingham City FC (St Andrews) & Wolverhampton FC (Moulinex) last season our Year 6 boys are vying to reach Wembley after qualifying at the AFC Wimbledon Foundation EFL Trust Kids Cup on Tuesday.
40 primary schools from the boroughs of Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth entered the prestigious event with only 8 teams able to qualify for the next round. We were in the afternoon tournament and were seeded in Group 2 alongside 4 other schools, these were - Hillbrook Primary, Earsfield, Fircroft Primary and Brandlehow.
Scores:
Cheam Common Vs Hillbrook Primary (Won 3-1) - Bolu (2), Zac.P (1)
Cheam Common Vs Earsfield (Won 2-0) - Zach.H (1), Luke.T (1)
Cheam Common Vs Fircroft Primary (Won 3-0) - Bolu (3)
Cheam Common Vs Brandlehow (Won 1-0) - Bolu (1)
After winning 4/4 in the group stages we were then drawn to Belleville Primary School in the final knockout game which we needed to win in order to qualify to the next round. Despite having all the possession and hitting the post 3 times the game ended 0-0 after 10 minutes and was followed by 3 minutes golden goal! With seconds remaining Omari had a great shot which was blocked on the line by the Belleville defender but Bolu was on hand to follow up to score and secure the win!
Well done boys! We are now looking forward to the next qualifying round which will take place at AFC Wimbledon's training ground in January 2020. Congratulations boys!
A Team:
Last Thursday, Cheam Common faced St Dunstan’s in the league where we got off to an excellent start going three goals ahead within 3 minutes with three great solo goals from Bolu x2 and Luke T.
St Dunstan’s pulled one back with a free kick from of the edge of the box flying into the top corner. Jake H then found Bolu with a great through ball and he fired it into the back of the net! 4-1. Bolu soon found the back of the net again after Zac H played him in behind St Dunstan’s back line and he timed his run to fire home another goal! Omari then put us 6-1 up after a great solo run down the left to cut across his defender and fire it into the top corner. Bolu once again went on a great solo run beating 3 defenders before slotting home into the far bottom corner! 7-1! Ben R played a great one two with Omari to get the ball back and to fire home! 8-1! Another free kick for St Dunstan’s and their talented midfielder found the top corner from another free kick!
Cheam Common reacted really well with a great team goal involving some great combination play from Zac P, Ryan and Joseph M who found Ben R to fire home his 2nd goal of the game! 9-2
St Dunstan’s pulled one more back just in time before the final whistle was blown. An excellent 9-3 victory in the league!
Player of the match: Ben R
B Team:
On a wet and windy Thursday afternoon, our Year 6 boys B team travelled to Sutton United to face the Avenue in the league searching for their first win of the season!
We got off to a great start with Mati tackling the Avenue defender who slid the ball into Evan who shot and scored! 1-0.
A few chances for Avenue were on target at the Cheam Common goal but a couple of excellent saves from goalkeeper George denied the Avenue and kept us 1-0 up.
Straight after half time, Marcus crossed the ball into the box to find Minseok who found the back of the net with a excellent finish! 2-0.
With a couple minutes to go Cheam Common kept pushing the Avenue back and Presley chipped the ball in over the Avenue defender to find Evan who fired it into the top corner for his second of the game! 3-0.
A great team performance for the boys who game by game have been growing in confidence and developing not only individually but as a team and playing for each other! An excellent first win of the season! Well done boys!
Player of the match: Minseok
Girls' Tournament:
On Thursday afternoon in the wind and rain, our Year 5&6 Girls' A and B team headed to Sutton Utd for the Sutton Borough Regional event qualifiers for the London Youth Games!
We got off to a great start where we won 1-0 vs a very strong Barrow Hedges B side. Our goal came from Amy who amazingly scored directly from a corner!
The second game we went onto draw 0-0 vs Avenue B. Some excellent saves from Aliah in goal made sure we kept a clean sheet and got one point for our draw!
Then we drew 1-1 vs Manor Park B. Our goal coming from Lina.
Next up we won 1-0 vs Bandon Hill Medow Field A. Our goal coming from Amy with a great assist from Amela.
Onto our final game where we drew 0-0 vs a strong Tweedale A side.
An amazing effort from all the girls meant we were unbeaten throughout the whole tournament and finished runners up to winners Tweedale A who pipped us by one point!
Player of the Tournament: Lina

START COLLECTING TOKENS TODAY!
We have signed up to The Sun's Books For School Campaign. The Sun are printing tokens in their paper for schools to collect this month. If we reach the target, we will receive a bumper pack of books containing more than 100 titles, worth £600. Please start collecting as many tokens as you can from family and friends. The tokens can be posted in the school office. Thank you for your support!
Thank you for supporting Save The Children's Christmas Jumper Day.

There were some great jumpers being fashioned!
Good luck to our Top of the Form team who take on St Marys' Primary School today in the first round of this year’s Sutton Schools’ Rotary Club Competition. Boris, Sian, Marcus and Emma will form the Cheam Common team at the general knowledge event. Good luck!
Here is our weekly attendance round up, with figures for each class since the start of the year. Our target for our attendance is 97%.
Well done to 3H, 4S, 3B, 5J and 4SM for their ‘gold’ attendance.
As the winter weather begins, lots of children may develop colds and coughs. Wherever possible, please send your child to school. Most often, once the school day is underway, children perk up. If they are too unwell to be at school, a member of the school office would contact home.
Please remember that our school gates close at 8:45am. Children who arrive after this time are missing a significant amount of learning time in the classroom as they begin fluency activities from the moment they arrive.
If you would like to discuss any issues with regards to attendance then please see Miss Gunner.
If your child is in Year 6 they will be taking their KS2 SATs in May. Children in Year 6 must attend school during the week commencing 11th May 2020. As these tests are a statutory legal requirement and cannot be taken at any other time, the Governing Body does not allow Miss Gunner to authorise absence for any reason during this period, therefore any absence will be unauthorised and the Local Authority could take further action. Please consider this when booking holidays for next term.

The Sustainable Transport Team is seeking to recruit Cycle Instructors in the Sutton area to deliver Bikeability, the national cycle training programme for children. As one of our professional trained instructors you could earn up to £420.16 per week to deliver our standard Bikeability courses involving 20 hours of contact with riders plus time for course administration and travel. Our Bikeability sessions are typically 10.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 15.00, plus travel time. All instructors must train on a 4-day National Standard Instructor course. It is an advantage if you already hold this qualification although not essential as training will be arranged for the right candidates.
So if you are a regular cyclist, have good road sense, are a good communicator and enjoy working outdoors, then this could be just the job for you. If appropriate you will receive further training in First Aid and Cycle Maintenance.
For an informal discussion about these positions please telephone Eric Chasseray, Sustainable Transport Officer on 020 8547 5826 or email eric.chasseray@kingston.gov.uk

Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group’s book list.
This week’s book is from the Year 6 booklist and is ‘Millions by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
Two brothers, Damian and Anthony, are unwittingly caught up in a train robbery during Britain's countdown to join the Euro. Suddenly finding themselves with a vast amount of cash, the boys have just one glorious, appalling dilemma – how to spend it in the few days before it becomes worthless. Torn between the vices of buying a million pizzas and the virtues of ending world poverty, the boys soon discover that being rich is a mug's game. For not only is the clock ticking – the bungling bank robbers are closing in. Pizzas or World Peace, what would you choose?
If you had unlimited money, what would you use it for?
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark!
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
Welcome to our weekly science bulletin. Here you will find interesting facts and activities all about science! Every week we will discuss a new topic and we will also be finding out what each year group have been learning about in their science lessons. If you complete the follow up activities or research the topics please present your findings to Miss Lane. Your work may even make onto our twitter page!
This term, Year 6 have been learning about the human body, focusing specifically on parts of the human circulatory system and describing the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. This week, we look at the circulatory system and the important job that it does!
The circulatory system is one of the most important systems in the body. Made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels, the circulatory system is your body's delivery system. Your heart plays and important part in being healthy. It keeps all the blood in your circulatory system flowing. Blood helps oxygen get around your body. When you exercise you can feel your pulse, it tells you how fast your heart is pumping.
Over to you! Choose a circulatory system game to play on https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwdr6yc. Can you make your own diagram showing how the circulatory system works in our bodies?
Please present your findings to Miss Lane!
