Interfaith week brings together different beliefs from across the country in order to understand how everybody is unique. Cheam Common is inviting everybody to share their beliefs! You could create a poster about different religions or festivals! Maybe create a video diary of rituals and traditions within your own family, create a multi-faith calendar or an artwork about beliefs whether they be religious or personal! The options are endless! Please hand any submissions into Miss Holloway by Friday 29th November 2019.
Any parents that wish to discuss their religions with pupils, please let Miss Holloway or the school office know! We would like to share your expertise with the children!
Our next RE day will focus on Sikhism.
On Wednesday 6th November, the new netball teams played their first matches of the season. This match was against Devonshire Primary who we have played before.
The girls were all very excited to play and started off quickly, however they needed some reminders on always marking their players and using all the space on court! As the first half settled down, the girls started to play quickly, with more and more confidence; by the time the first half was over we were 9 goals up!!! In the second half the team’s confidence continued to grow and they began to play accurate netball as a team. The GK and GA both had many more opportunities to score and managed to up the score to 16. The match ended 16 - 1, a great way to start the season, well done everyone.
Having watched the A team play, the B team were keen to get started. Their opposition was much more evenly matched and GK and GA had a lot fewer opportunities to shoot! However they managed to score a goal in the first half but so did Devonshire. The half time talk reminded the girls to mark just their player and use all the space; the second half saw the girls take this advice on board and play some great netball. The game ended 2 - 1 to Cheam which was a fair result for all their hard work. Well done to you all!

Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group’s book list.
This week’s book is one of the new titles from the Year 6 book list and is 'Frostheart' by Jamie Littler; it has been recommended by Kornelia R.
For fans of Nevermore and How to Train a Dragon, prepare to venture on a heart-stopping adventure of a lifetime, full of brilliant characters, tons of laughter and a magical tale that is perfect for the oncoming winter nights.
Way out in the furthest part of the known world, a tiny stronghold exists all on its own, cut off from the rest of human-kind by monsters that lurk beneath the Snow Sea. Singing a forbidden lullaby, whilst trying to avoid his very grumpy yeti guardian, Tobu, Ash waits for the return of his parents. But life is about to get a whole lot more adventurous for Ash. When a brave rescue attempt reveals he has amazing magical powers, he's whisked aboard the Frostheart, a sleigh packed full of daring explorers who could use his help. But can they help him find his family? Frostheart is a rip-roaring action adventure that is a feast for the imagination. Accompanied with beautiful illustrations, Frostheart is a book, you won’t wish to put down!
Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark.
You can find your child's Battle of the Books suggested book list on our school website via the following link:

Here you will find most books listed, however we are continually updating and showcasing our recommended reads as new books are released.
Welcome to our weekly science bulletin. Here you will find interesting facts and activities all about science! Every week we will discuss a new topic and we will also be finding out what each year group have been learning about in their science lessons. If you complete the follow up activities or research the topics please present your findings to Miss Lane. Your work may even make onto our twitter page!
Bonfire night was this week- but do you know how the colourful fireworks are actually made? A firework consists of three parts: the shell, the explosive and the "stars," which are the colourful little pellets you see in the sky when the firework explodes. The standard type of shell used in fireworks is the aerial shell. It's usually spherical or cylindrical in shape, and it holds the explosive material – gunpowder. Gunpowder is made up of sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate. All of these components react with each other to create an explosion when heat is applied. In order to get the shell up high enough in the sky, it has to be lifted somehow. Usually the shell is mounted on a tube, and another sample of gunpowder is lit at the other end. This rockets the firework into the sky, where it explodes and lights up the star pellets.
Can you find out how different colours and shapes are created in fireworks? How can we be safe around fireworks? You could even create a firework safety poster.
Don’t forget to present your findings to Miss Lane!

NAS Sutton Training for Professionals:
"Small Steps to Encourage Communication
in Children with SEND"
Tuesday 12 November
9.45am - 11.30am, Carshalton Beeches
If you work with children with SEND then this workshop is not to be missed...
The ability to share attention and to have the motivation or desire to communicate is vital for all aspects of learning and socialising, but some children with SEND can experience difficulties in achieving these valuable skills.
This workshop, written for professionals, will look at the fundamentals of early communication and how missing out on these early developmental stages can impact on children’s ability to interact and engage. Participants will gain a greater understanding of, and confidence in, using a variety of strategies to create a desire to communicate and develop shared attention. You should leave this workshop feeling more confident in using a small step approach to promote communication.
Suitable for Teachers, TA's, carers or childminders.
£20pp
