Updates

As we start our Autumn 2 term, we wanted to acknowledge that we have incorporated a range of events into our curriculum. Some of which involve dressing up or raising money. We would like to reassure you that donations towards charities are voluntary and that themes for charity days are set by the charity not the school. Please note you do not need to purchase specific costumes for these events and if you are unable to provide a costume for your child, please speak to your class teacher for ideas.

Show Racism the Red Card

Thank you for supporting Show Racism the Red Card. We raised an amazing £339. We really appreciate your support.

Go Outrageously Orange

We have partnered with Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden to raise awareness for this charity. Today we want you to come in wearing as much orange as possible and if you would like to donate then please visit the Trust’s Just Giving page.

EYFS Parent Consultations

Today we will be sending out the virtual links to the Nursery and Reception parent consultations next week. Also don't forget Nursery and Reception Open Afternoon will be on 12th November Reception families will be able to enter the school via the door the child normally enters, once all children have left. Reception classrooms will be open until 3.45.

Fawns and Cygnets families will be able to visit the classroom between 11am and 11.30am. Rabbits will be able to visit the classroom between 3pm and 3.30pm. Ducklings will be able to visit either between 8.30am and 9am or 3 and 3.30pm. Ducklings' parents will need to sign up on a list that has been put outside the classroom.

School streets started this week

Sutton Council is committed to making the streets outside our schools safer for children and one way of doing this is to introduce School Streets. Evidence suggests that School Streets schemes help make the school journey safer and calmer, and encourage more active forms of transport which in turn are better for the environment and for our health.

For these reasons, Sutton Council has implemented a School Street scheme on the road(s) outside your school. The details are as follows:

They began introducing street signs during October 2021, and the scheme went live from Monday 1st November 2021. The restrictions will be enforced via the use of Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. There will not be any physical barriers preventing vehicles from entering so there will be no impact on emergency vehicles.

The school street operates between 8.15-9.00am and 2.45-3.30pm only on Monday to Friday inclusive during school term time only. The roads that will be restricted during these times are: Knolls Close, Abingdon Close and Kingsmead Ave between Dalmeny Road and Balmoral Road.

More information on the School Streets and what to expect in the coming months can be found on there website and the Parents School Street Letter

EYFS Nursery Rhyme Week

During the week commencing 15th November 2021, all of the Nursery and Reception classes across the LEO Trust will be taking part in the national ‘Nursery Rhyme Week’. We have an exciting week planned, with lots of fun activities taking place. On Friday 19th November, each of the LEO schools will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and performing a nursery rhyme to another class in the LEO trust via a hangout. We would like you to discuss with your child which is their favourite nursery rhyme and come dressed as a character from that rhyme or something representing it on this date. It would be wonderful to see how creative you can be with homemade costumes, but please also feel free to buy a costume should you wish to do so.

Word of the Week

Every week the children spend time learning a new word. This will help the children developing their vocabulary and improve their understanding.

Y1: before

Y2: meteor

What has been happening in school?

We have been busy creating a firework out of paint. We then practiced our sounds by writing the words to the sounds fireworks make!

The children enjoyed reading 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and exploring the sensory play!

Diwali

Yesterday our Hindu families celebrated Diwali and came to school in their traditional costumes.

Year 1 Entry Point- Toys

To start Year 1's Toy topic, Year 1 children dressed up as their favourite toy!

Year 2 Entry Point

To start Year 2's People from the past topic, Year 2 children dressed up as a range of historical people.

We also had a special assembly where we created our own timeline.

Information and Resources

Online Safety

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) tells us that 'since the start of the pandemic, the amount of ‘self-generated’ child abuse imagery has increased dramatically. In 2020, the IWF confirmed 68,000 cases of such imagery, a rise of 77% on the year before. It accounts for nearly half (44%) the imagery we took action on last year. In 80% of these cases, the victims were 11- to 13-year-old girls.' The IWF has created a resource to help parents and carers understand the risks of 'self-generated child sexual abuse imagery' using the acronym 'TALK'.

The TALK acronym breaks these steps into four main areas that gives you some practical ways to help your child reduce their risk and use the internet more safely. The key is to start now: whether your child has been using the internet independently for a while, or are about to get their first mobile phone, it is not too late to take these steps.

Place2be

Place2be recognise the crucial influence of parents and carers on children’s experiences and achievements and that positive parenting has a major impact on a child’s life chances. When teachers are able to work collaboratively with parents and build strong working relationships with them, outcomes for children improve.

Place2be are delighted to introduce Parenting Smart, a website that offers practical and accessible advice to parents and carers of children aged 4-11. All of the content has been created by Place2Be’s parenting experts and is based on evidence and their experiences of working with children, young people and their families. It contains over 40 articles with advice for parents about some common parenting questions. Click here to visit the site.
