Wednesday 30th April
We are delighted to inform you that we have arranged an educational visit from Mill Cottage Farm Experience on Wednesday 30th April. This visit forms part of our unit of learning ‘From Ant to Elephant’ and provides the children with a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn about a wide range of farm animals.
The farm will be visiting us for the day based in the CCJ grounds. Reception classes will take turns to visit the farm and will be accompanied by their class teacher and additional adults.
We are very keen for this visit to take place and therefore request a voluntary contribution of £6.00 per pupil to be paid via Arbor before Monday 21st April. Please note that refunds cannot be made if your child is absent on the day. If insufficient voluntary contributions are received this visit might have to be cancelled. However if you have difficulty in affording the above amount, please come to see us privately either at the classroom door or speak to the office staff.
Thursday 8th May
We are excited to announce that Year 1 will be going on an educational visit to Hobbledown. As Scientists, we have been learning all about animals and classifying their features. Hobbledown will be a wonderful experience for them to explore a variety of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. It will allow them to enrich their scientific vocabulary as they discuss the animals and see them first hand. We will also be participating in an ‘Interactive Animal Experience’ consisting of a meet-and-greet session with a range of animals. This will be run by a qualified animal keeper, who will discuss habitats, adaptations, identification and features with the children.
On Thursday 8th May the whole year group will visit Hobbledown. We will leave school by coach at 9.00 a.m. Please ensure that your child arrives at school promptly at 8.30am. We will return to school at 3.00 pm. If we are delayed in getting back, an email will be sent out from the school office to parents.
As the weather starts to improve, we are turning our attention to the EYFS forest area. We would be very grateful for any donations of unwanted stepping stones, logs or plants that could enhance this space for our children!
If you have any donations, these would be welcomed at the school office or to class teachers.
We would like to thank Isla in Hedgehogs and her family for providing us with three trays of primulas and some compost that have added a super splash of colour to our Reception 'Forest Area.'
Click on the links below to read our curriculum newsletters. On these, you can find out the topics that your children will be learning about, as well as information about home learning, PE days and general reminders for their year group.
If your child has grapes as a snack, could you ensure that these are cut into halves or quarters so that your child is able to eat them safely.
There is a huge amount of lost property at the moment. This will be displayed in the playground at pick up and drop off when the weather is good enough. Please ensure children's uniforms are named.
We are looking for any creative parents and families with building skills or links with local builders who would like to make a branded resource.
We would love to be able to provide our new Reception 'Forest School', gravel garden and outside continuous provision area with a Messy Kitchen! We know that these can be built using old pallets and wood and were wondering whether there were any parents who would be able to help with this?
Please contact the school office if you feel that this is something that you could help with. Any help would be beyond appreciated!
Eat Them to Defeat Them
This campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables is coming into its seventh year. Involvement in this campaign has been proved to lead to increased vegetable consumption over the long term and with 29% of children eating less that one portion of vegetables a day it is important that we make every attempt to improve our children's diets. Look out for the daily vegetable that we will be encouraging your children to eat. Starting with carrots our catering team are adding a tasty and healthy carrot cake to the menu so your children can receive their 'eat them to defeat them sticker.'
Nursery have been reading Biscuit Bear! They drew their own biscuit bears and decorated them. They also painted spring flowers. Their special word in NELI this week was smell. They added lemon scent to the water tray!
Reception have been learning about Ramadan and Eid! We tried dates and learnt about Mendhi patterns. We have been practising making doubles patterns with different objects!
Year One have enjoyed their learning this week. In English they have begun their new book ‘One day in the blue planet in the savannah’. The children have enjoyed exploring African animals and wrote detailed descriptions of lions. We were very proud of their sentences and they are using conjunctions more confidently. The children loved learning about nocturnal animals and wrote a non fiction information page on bush babies.
In Maths, the children have been challenged this week as they have explored doubles of 20. They have used known facts to 10 to make 20 e.g I know that 4 + 3=7 so I know 14 + 3 = 17.
In Science, the children enjoyed learning about amphibians. We have tadpoles in Robins which is very exciting!
In DT, the children have begun their own moving pictures and have created their background, they are excited to complete it next week. We hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day, one week to go for the Easter holidays :)
Year 2 developed essential research skills this week, learning to extract information and transform it into coherent sentences while exploring the fascinating world of Emperor penguins through Thinglink, stories, and documentaries.
Students honed their critical thinking and scientific reasoning by applying the 'Mrs. Gren' criteria to classify objects as living, dead, or never alive, engaging in respectful debates.
Practical application of analogue clocks strengthened their time-telling skills, as they worked in pairs to set and draw specific times.
Artistic expression flourished as students explored gestural mark-making, drawing inspiration from Van Gogh to create vibrant still life pieces using self-mixed colours and diverse painting techniques.
Well done Year 2 for another week of fantastic learning!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
