Please can we ask that any sponsorship money for the Rudolph run and/or donations for mufti is paid into our St Raphael’s Hospice JustGiving page.

Christmas
Our Early Years performances will be held in the school hall while our Year 1 and 2 performance will be held in Christchurch with St Phillips. Due to capacity in both of these venues, we are only able to allocate two tickets per family for each performance.
Please complete the form below to give permission for your child to participate in the performance as well as indicate which day you would like tickets for.
Nursery
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Nursery. This week, the children have begun learning their Christmas songs for their performance and are doing a fantastic job playing different instruments. They have been building Santa's sleigh with construction equipment as well as looking at how magnets work. They have been developing their fine motor skills by switching on the Christmas lights as well as creating snowmen in messy play. They have been using different shapes to print Christmas scenes as well as drawing different Christmas images.
Fantastic work!
Reception
Reception have begun to read 'Stickman'.
We labelled the characters and made 'lost posters' to help poor Stickman find his way home. The children were delighted to retell the story with their real 'Stickman' that were collected for the competition. Thank you so much to everyone who took part!
This week the children were very excited to learn about number 10. They have been learning that the '1' means one whole 10 frame and the '0' means no more 1s. We have been searching for sticks in the outside area and learning how to use a tally to record how many we have found.
We have begun to learn about time and thought carefully and sorted which of our daily activities happen during the day and which we do at night.
We explored different Christmas traditions and discovered that Father Christmas has many different names in different countries. The children shared pictures of their own special celebrations that were kindly sent by parents via Seesaw.
We thoroughly enjoyed designing, decorating and eating our gingerbread men.
''They are hard and crunchy and taste delicious.''
Year 1
Year One have been busily preparing for our Christmas performance. They are working terrifically hard at learning songs and actions.
The children have really enjoyed their new English book this week, 'Traction Man'. They have predicted what they thought the story would be about and have written some great character descriptions of Traction Man. Traction Man goes on a lot of different adventures which some of the children really enjoyed acting out in Rainbow Room.
Acting as historians, the children reviewed all their learning about toys from the past and present. They used Seesaw to record all their findings including: What is a source, identifying Victorian toys, how toys of today are different from toys of the past and what materials they are made from.
Acting as scientists, the children investigated 'Which materials would be best suited to make a slide for a toy car?' The children tested a variety of materials to identify which is most slippery to cause the car to travel down the ramp in the fastest time. They made a prediction and evaluated which material was best suited. The children are using some lovely language like smooth, push, pull, force, faster, slower.
Acting as mathematicians, the children have continued learning about subtraction. They explored number stories and used different methods to solve these. They used number lines and part part whole models. They are becoming confident at subtracting and are correctly writing subtraction sentences.
Thinking like designers, the children continued making their D.T product - a swing. They evaluated their A frame and decided it needed to be made from wood to be more secure and they needed to use plasticine for the base to anchor it. Many children had to re make their A frame or strengthen them, they tried very hard to tie the rope for the swing. They were very proud of their structures.
Well done Year One!
Year 2
Year Two have been busily preparing for our Christmas performance. They are working terrifically hard learning songs, dances as well as the words through which to tell the story of Christmas. They are so looking forward to performing in our community church Christ Church with St Phillips next week.
The children have very much enjoyed moving and being active through using the active calendar from 'imoves'. The dance activities have certainly helped them 'be ready to learn'!
You may remember that our Year Two writers wrote letters to Bob (the man on the moon) last week. Guess what? He replied. He informed the children that an astronaut's job is very important and inspired them to find out more about what astronauts do. The children have been busily researching astronauts' lives on their chrome books and have produced great facts files and reports to tell their readers all they need to know.
Ask them if they can remember any of the jobs astronauts have to do whilst in space.
Acting as theologians, Year Two enjoyed learning about Hanukkah and the importance of the Menorah.
Ask them if they can remember why there are nine candle holders.
Happy birthday to all our pupils who have celebrated a birthday this week.
Happy birthday to Emilia. Thank you for donating a book to the library.
Happy birthday to Leo. Thank you for donating a book to the library.
Home learning/Out of school achievements
Well done to Zoe who through to her dedication has passed her latest belt. Well done for now being a blue belt. A great achievement.
Well done to Ruarí who completed his yellow belt grading in Hapkido.
Well done to all the Year 1 children who have made Egg box dragons. They are all fantastic and very creative!
We love to celebrate the achievements of our pupils, including those achieved outside of school.
If you would like us to share your child's achievements in the newsletter or end of term assembly please complete this form.
As a healthy school we ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to the library instead of bringing treats for the class. The book will help us to grow our library and ensure we are promoting healthy eaters.
We will display a photo of your child with their book in the newsletter.

There are many different views about physical chastisement, but it is widely accepted there are much more effective ways to teach children right from wrong.
As a local authority, Sutton has seen a number of children coming to the attention of police and social care due to the use of physical chastisement and as such has worked with other local authorities on an initiative to reduce this number.
In line with this initiative, we agree that anything that causes harm to a child is unacceptable.
As a school, we have a duty to report incidents of suspected or confirmed physical chastisement to social care and the police and this can be with ot without visible bruising, grazes, scratches, minor swelling, cuts as well as stress injuries from prolonged standing, position holding as these are banned by law in the United Kingdom.
Smacking or chastising that does not leave a mark is now illegal in Wales and Scotland, and there is currently pressure being placed on the Government to make it illegal in England and Northern Ireland too. It is therefore important to understand that even if a child has been smacked but no injuries are visible, social care or the police may still choose to take further action.
If you would like support on how to manage your child’s behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.

Surrey County Council encourages residents to foster
Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can transform the lives of both the children being fostered and the foster carers themselves. Children who enter the care system have often experienced trauma and instability in their lives, and a caring, stable foster family can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and development.
Nationally, there are currently over 70,000 children living with foster families in the UK. However, there is still a significant shortage of foster carers, with around 9,265 new foster families needed in the next year alone. In Surrey, there are over 1,000 children in care and Surrey County Council have just under 400 foster families.
Foster carers come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fostering. Whether you are single or married, young or old, own your own home or rent, you can still become a foster carer. The most important thing is a willingness to provide a safe and loving home for a child in need.
This is the message that Surrey County Council is promoting in national recruitment film ‘Any of Us’. The short film has been jointly funded by over 80 councils across England and aims to raise awareness about fostering, particularly among those people who may not have previously considered themselves suited to fostering. The film looks at the potential of three people from different backgrounds to become foster carers, and the potential of children they care for to grow and thrive. ‘Any of Us’ will be available to watch from 26 September.
If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that first step and find out more. The more people who consider fostering, the greater the chance of finding loving, stable homes for children in Surrey who desperately need them.
You can contact Surrey County Council Fostering Service on 0800 096 9626, via email at fostering.recruitment@surreycc.gov.uk or by visiting the website; www.surreycc.gov.uk/fostering
You can watch ‘Any of Us’ via Any of Us - YouTube and connect with the Fostering Service on social media via @surreyfostering
