School Updates

🥫 Harvest donations - thank you!🥫

Thank you so much to our families who donated goods to our Harvest Festival collection this week.

We were so proud of our Year 1 and 2 children for performing at our annual Harvest Festival at Christ Church with St Philip on Tuesday morning.

If you forgot to donate this week, there is still time! Our Harvest donations are being delivered on Wednesday morning.

Gate reminders

A reminder that our main playground gate is open from 8:30-8:40am every morning. Our Phonics lessons start at 8:45am across the school and it is important that teachers are back in class at this time and the children have been registered and are ready for their new learning. If you would like to speak to your child's class teacher for a longer meeting, please email the office to arrange this.

School Tours

Attendance

Now that the new school year is underway, we would like to remind you of our school attendance and punctuality expectations and procedures.

As many of you will be aware, there have been significant changes to the statutory attendance guidance, these changes came into effect on 19th August 2024. Our Attendance Policy has been revised to reflect these changes. Please click below for the updated policy.

Attendance Policy

The changes aim to improve school attendance and ensure that all students receive the education they deserve.

Parking reminder

We ask our parents to please be mindful of parking restrictions around our school. We care about our local community and want to ensure we do not impact their lives negatively.

Please take care not to block driveways when parking, not to park on the zig-zagged lines outside the office, and to be patient with one another.

BBC 500 Words Competition

There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds. All children need to do is write a story they would love to read in 500 Words or less.

We would love children of all abilities to enter; spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - it's all about creativity!

50 finalists will be invited to go to a glamorous grand final at Buckingham Palace in February next year, where the bronze, silver and gold winners in each category will have their stories read out by celebrities.

There are also lots of prizes to be won - each winner will take home a bundle of books and the gold winners also win 500 books for their school library.

Not only that, the winning stories will receive an original illustration from Dapo Adeola, Nigel Parkinson, Lydia Monks, Momoko Abe, Rob Biddulph or Yasmeen Ismail.

It's incredibly important to us that children of all abilities and backgrounds are able to take part in the competition; therefore each school that enters a story and receives 50% free school meals or more, is entitled to a £50 National Book Token and three £10 book tokens for their pupils.

Weekly School and Sporting News Stories

Nursery and Reception

In Nursery this week, the children have continued learning about emotions and things that make us feel that way. They have also done some gardening in the outside learning area!

In Reception this week the children read Splat the Cat and looked at signs of Autumn. They have been working on leaf rubbings, created Harvest baskets and created their own cat characters!

Year 1

It was amazing to see Year One perform at St Phillips church for KS1 Harvest Festival. They were so excited to sing! They sang so beautifully, we were really proud of them and we hope you enjoyed it. The children have been very busy with their learning this week. In English they have been using tales toolkit and they wrote about the character Beegu, the setting, problem and solution. Writing fully independently as a whole class was challenging!  In Maths this week the children have really enjoyed learning about whole and parts. They practically chopped fruit and playdough to find parts. They also found part of a number in a group. In geography the children created maps of their local area in small groups, they had lots of fun plotting on landmarks and identifying whether they are physical or human features.

Year 2

In Maths this week Yr 2 continued to 2-digit numbers and exploring patterns on 100 squares.

We have some amazing artists who produced beautiful observational drawings of autumn leaves. We enjoyed celebrating our Black History Month Heroes. Each class researched and wrote about a different hero and shared them across the year group and developed our public speaking skills in our assembly. In Science we practised our research skills and had a wonderful time reading about how to care for different animals.

Birthday celebrations

Polite reminder...

As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats.  This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.

Lottie (Reception)

Thank you for your book donation!
