Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th March
You will now have been invited to sign up for your child's Parent Consultation Evening slot, falling on the dates above. Please note that Miss King will be holding parents consultations on the evenings of Monday 17th and Thursday 20th March.
Click on the links below to read our curriculum newsletters. On these, you can find out the topics that your children will be learning about, as well as information about home learning, PE days and general reminders for their year group.
Please can we remind parents that children should not be bringing their own toys or Pokémon cards into school. These can be a distraction to children and can cause distress if they get lost.
Additionally, we would recommend that children are taken to appointments outside of school hours. When children have lunchtime appointments, it can take some time to find these children, who may have just sat down to eat their lunch.
Friday 7th March
We are looking forward to our annual World Book Day celebrations in which all children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Be as creative and inventive as you would like. A reminder that these costumes don't need to be expensive or time-consuming. Even a decorated white T-shirt with book-related drawings works superbly!
Friday 7th March
We are excited to announce the ‘Book in a Jar’ competition! This competition is a great way to show your love of books and creativity in conjunction with World Book Day.
To enter, simply choose a book that you love and create a representation of it in a jar. You can use any materials you like, such as paper, fabric, paint, or even clay. Be as creative as you can! You might even draw a jar!
Remember - this competition is completely optional!
All entries must be submitted to your child's class teacher by Friday 7th March.
Here are some of 2023's winners!
Friday 21st March
This year Red Nose Day is on Friday 21st March and, as a school, we would like to raise some money for this great cause as well as the children having lots of fun!
This year’s theme is ‘Do Something Funny For Money’, we are asking all children to come to school with ‘Crazy Hair’. We are asking for a donation, with the suggested amount being £1, which will be collected at the gate as the children come into school. Please see below some examples of ‘crazy hair’ ideas…
We hope that the children enjoy the day and hopefully, we as a school, can raise some money for Comic Relief. As always, thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing your crazy hairstyles!
Mrs Hughes
One of the special words that we learned this week in NELI has been 'pour'. We practised pouring milk and water. We have also been learning about positional language (on, beside, underneath).
Reception have been reading The Jolly Postman. We wrote letters to our favourite characters. We also created our own version of Kandinsky artwork as part of our artist study..
We have really enjoyed hearing what a lovely time the children had over half term, they are definitely more rested. We have had a wonderful first week back introducing the children to all our new topics. In English we have been learning about shark lady, Eugenie Clarke. The children have written great facts about her as a child and an adult. They have labelled a shark and written facts about sharks. In Maths the children have been learning that if we add or subtract zero the sum or difference remains the same. We have also looked at what happens when a number is added to or subtracted from itself. In science the children have enjoyed exploring animals, are they carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. They have written facts about mammals. In D.T the children have explored moving picture books and have begun to name the parts that move e.g slider, flap, pivot. The children were very excited to end the week having a disco!
This week we had great fun in our maths lessons as they created their own tally charts and pictograms. The children surveyed their peers and represented the collected data to answer questions such as ‘What is your favourite animal?’
In art we explored the work of two expressive artists and analysed how these two artists might use colours and mark making to create beautiful works of art. The children experimented using watercolours with different brush strokes to recreate the work of expressive painters Charlie French and Marela Zacarías
We have been developing our research and oracy skills in science this week. Working in groups, the Year 2 pupils researched different habitats of a variety of animals using Thinglink and then shared what they had learnt by giving presentations to the rest of the class.
What a fantastic first week back!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.

Hubert decided to make a house out of some cupboards at home after learning about occupations. We read the poem about the postman knocking at the door, which links to The Jolly Postman!
