Year 5 has had a fantastic and motivated start to the second half of the Autumn term! The children have dived straight into their new learning with great interest.
We've begun our new class novel, 'Kensuke's Kingdom', and the children are already hooked! In our writing and discussion, we have been focusing on how to construct balanced arguments. We've explored the importance of modal verbs (like must, might, and should) to express certainty and possibility. In addition, the children have been developing their oral rehearsal skills by confidently adding to their ideas using fronted adverbials such as moreover and furthermore, and causal conjunctions including therefore and as a result. Ask them to demonstrate this at home!
Our new topic, 'What is life like in the Alps?', has captured our imaginations. The children have been acting as Geographers, using atlases to locate mountain ranges and explore the region. See if your child can remember the eight countries that the Alps run through!
It's also been a very active fortnight! Some children have completed Bikeability training, and we've also resumed our regular swimming and PE lessons with our new coach, Mr Rato.
Please remember the PE days for this half term:
Swimming: Mondays
PE: Wednesdays (Please ensure the correct kit is worn.)
The new homework matrix is now available on Google Classroom. We encourage the children to get creative with their tasks, and we'd love to see their efforts in school—please send in any completed work! Likewise, your child’s weekly spellings can also be found on Google Classroom.
