Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have been such creative learners! We've been so impressed by their hard work and are thrilled to share what we've been learning.
We are still using The Sea Monsters by Terry Dear, and the children have produced excellent diary entries focused on recounting events. They've been working hard to include fronted adverbials and use possessive pronouns correctly. Our next writing outcome will be a non-chronological report about the famous engineer Isambard Brunel, focusing on using formal language and appropriate pronouns.
Our mathematical focus has been on consolidating multiplication of two and three-digit numbers. We have also begun to look at division skills. The children are continuing to build confidence in these essential arithmetic methods.
The children are still loving the book The Pugs of the Frozen North. This week, we have been focusing on the key comprehension skills of prediction and summarising texts, helping them anticipate and condense the story's main ideas.
In our Electricity unit, we looked at how a switch is used in a circuit, learning that the switch must be closed for the circuit to be complete. We are now shifting our attention to investigating the difference between conductors and insulators.
In History, we looked at some of the tough jobs children did in the past, including being a bird scarer and working in a wood pit. We also began researching the impact Lord Shaftesbury had on improving children's lives through his work and campaigning.
In DT, we have been busy designing and building cars. We built and tested cars using both plastic and wood, comparing these materials to see which was the most effective for our design purpose.
In RE, we have explored the topic of Humanism. We looked at how Humanists think the world was created and how they would respond to challenging situations like natural disasters.
Thank you for your continued support.
