Hello Year 1 Parents,
It's been another fantastic, adventurous two weeks in Year 1! We’ve been out, about, and working incredibly hard.
The absolute highlight has to be our very first school trip of the year to the Ecology Centre!
It was a chilly day, but the children's enthusiasm kept us warm! They absolutely loved:
Exploring the woods and using their senses—listening for the rustling of leaves or the scurrying of a squirrel.
Identifying tree types.
Acting out the insides of a tree (a very creative activity!).
Going on a dedicated minibeast hunt using large nets, sheets, and brushes—we found some fascinating creatures!
Ending the trip tucked up warm in the learning hut for a well-deserved story.
It was a brilliant day of hands-on Science and exploration!
Our fairy tale fun continued with the classic story of 'The Three Little Pigs'!
We once again used our immersive Now Press Play headphones to act out the story, which was fantastic for bringing the pigs and the wolf to life!
This week, we focused on mastering capital letters, learning exactly when and how we use them in our writing.
We made story maps!
The children then applied their new skills by writing their very own Three Little Pigs stories! Their narratives are getting wonderfully imaginative.
We have been busy revising everything we have learnt this term in preparation for our Autumn Term Assessment!
The children have worked incredibly hard, revisiting concepts like number bonds, comparing numbers, and part-part-whole. We are genuinely impressed with their effort and knowledge retention!
To help your child become a more fluent and confident reader, here is a handy phonics tip for when you read at home:
When your child comes to a tricky word, please encourage them to sound talk and blend the sounds in their heads first. Once they know the word, they should say the word out loud.
Doing this regularly helps them to blend quickly and improves both their fluency and their comprehension of the text!
Geography - Compass Crusaders! 🌍 We've been exploring the world of navigation by discovering compasses! We took them out onto the playground to experiment, successfully finding North, East, South, and West. Our map skills are growing!
Design & Technology (D&T) - Stitching Superstars! ✂️ Ahead of making our exciting puppets, the children have been practising their fine motor skills by completing threading activities to learn the running stitch. They showed fantastic concentration!
Best wishes,
The Enthusiastic Year 1 Team!
