Congratulations everyone, we successfully achieved the MATRIX standard following our 3 day inspection of Information, Advice and Guidance this week.
The Inspector, Rob Barlow, met with many staff, students and partners to get a really good understanding of the service. Thank you to everyone who contributed directly but everyone contributed to the overall very positive impression he came away with, I was very proud of you when listening to his feedback.
We will have his full report in a couple of weeks and I will, of course, circulate it but in summary he found that we have made good progress since his last visit three years ago and he noted the impact of our new partnership work with targeted disadvantaged groups. He also observed really good cross service working and the impact of the improved environment at the college - both the vibrant cafe and careers area and the new staffroom/admin and curriculum 'hub'. He was pleased with the investment we have made in the provision of careers advice, learner welfare and improved enrolment advice and felt that, compared to other similar services, we are in a good, positive, confident and forward looking place, despite funding cuts and uncertainty nationally.
There are some areas we need to continue to develop but no surprises. We need to reap the benefits of our new data system and improve the content and navigation of our section of the LCC website. He also suggested we create a new marketing strategy to maximise the use of social networking and make more use of video to engage new learners.
We end this academic year with solid Ofsted and MATRIX inspections in our pocket, validating the quality of all aspects of our work and our direction of travel. We know what we need to do and now we can get on with it without worrying about 'visitors' for a couple of years.
