What “2 + 2” Means

In Florida, a “2 + 2” pathway means:

• 2 years at a community/state college (usually earning an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree with about 60 college credits); then

• 2 years at a state university to finish a bachelor’s degree (like a B.A. or B.S.).

It’s called “2 + 2” because community college covers the first two years (freshman and sophomore level), and the university covers the last two (junior and senior level).

What Florida’s 2 + 2 System Does

Guarantees Transfer Opportunity

Florida has a Statewide Articulation Agreement, sometimes simply called the 2+2 agreement. That means:

• If you earn an A.A. degree from a Florida College System school (like a community college),

• You are guaranteed admission into the upper division (junior year) at one of Florida’s public universities.
