The short lesson visit (SLV) gives the visitor a snapshot of the quality of the teaching, learning, assessment (TLA) and the student experience. It is also a good opportunity for the teacher/assessor and students to showcase what works well or talk about what could be better. There will be a brief previsit discussion based on the teacher/assessor's completion of the self assessment form, to agree a focus for the visit and agree the negotiated notice. It is important to note that no judgement will be made about 'meeting standards,' but the TLA Standards will inform the discussion.
All teaching and delivery staff will have at least 1 SLV across the academic year
*Teaching and delivery staff in probation will have 3 SLV’s during their probationary period (10 months)
*Apprentice teachers will have 2 SLV’s during their probationary period (6 months)
*Additional SLV’s can be put in place where they are requested by a staff member of where there is a performance concern. No more than 3 should take place across an academic year for any member of staff
