I have been teaching since 1991! I love teaching and I have taught lots of different things. I have taught in French Immersion for almost all of the years I have been teaching. I have taught grades 1-5, but mostly grade 1. For about 12 years I worked as a Student Support Teacher, so I helped lots of kids when they were having difficulty learning something. And since 2017, I have been a Teacher Librarian. Teaching in the library is definitely one of my favourite jobs ever! I love books and reading and I especially love children's literature, so it's a perfect job for me.
In September 2022, it will be 22 years since I started teaching at Ecole Hammond Bay. It is hard to believe I have been here that long! I love coming to school every day because we have such wonderful students and families, and an amazing, dedicated staff.
Happy reading! Bonne lecture! Mme Jacqueline
Margriet Ruurs visited Ecole Hammond Bay in May 2018, as part of the school readings program of the Vancouver Island Children's Book Festival. Her sessions were generously funded by our EHB PAC. She shared with us the story of Stepping Stones, and for a few weeks after we made many Stepping Stones-inspired pictures with stones that Madame Jacqueline brought into the library.

I invite you to enjoy this video of Monique Gray Smith reading You Hold Me Up. Right now, we are all holding each other up. I hope you are helping everyone around you be kind and gentle with each other. How are you holding someone up?
