Sports Performance 10 (3 credits)
Prerequisite: None
This course is offered to students interested in the theory and practices associated with the improvement of athletic performance. The following topics are included: goal setting, nutrition, and training principles and methods. Also included are stretching and warm-up, resistance training and spotting techniques, and the psychology of sport. The following practical topics are included: program design, cardio-respiratory fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, agility, flexibility, circuit training, and yoga.
Sports Performance 20 (3 and 5 credits)
Prerequisite: Sports Performance 10
This course is an extension of Sports Performance 10. The following topics are included: coaching, the control of movement, psychology of athletic preparation and performance, muscle physiology, performance-enhancing substances, resistance training, aerobic endurance exercise training, training variation, and periodization. The following practical topics are included: program design, coaching, cardio-respiratory fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, agility, flexibility, speed/reaction time, yoga, and circuit training.
Sports Performance 30-3 (3 and 5 credits)
Prerequisite: Sports Performance 20
This course is an extension of Sports Performance 20. The following topics are included: career opportunities in physical education, physiological adaptations to anaerobic and aerobic endurance training programs, psychological skills training, arousal regulation, mental imagery, exercise behavior and adherence, burnout, and overtraining. The practical topics are included: program design for a particular sport of choice, coaching theory, fitness testing, cardio-respiratory fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, agility, flexibility, speed/reaction time, yoga, and circuit training.
Sports Performance 10/20/30 (3 credits) for Girls

Also included are stretching and warm-up, resistance training and spotting techniques, and the psychology of sport. Practical topics include: female-orientated program design, cardio respiratory fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, agility, flexibility, circuit training, and yoga.
