Dance 15 (3 or 5 credits)
Prerequisite: None
This course is an introduction to technique, genres, improvisation, choreography, and performance. There is an academic component of this course for which students investigate the origins, current context, and elements of a folkdance of their choice. Lessons focus on increasing confidence through mastery of performance skills.
Dance 25 ( 3 or 5 credits)
Prerequisite: Dance 15
This course focusses on refining technique in a variety of dance forms, development of emotional execution during performance and improvisation during compositions. Students analyze the historical significance of choreographers who have made a remarkable and resonant changes within their chosen form and who have revealed truths about the world through their artistry. Dance forms explored include Swing, Latin Dance forms, House, Locking, Contemporary and Creative Composition.
Dance 35 (5 credits only)
Prerequisite: Dance 25
This course emphasizes the elements of dance composition. Students begin to see the potential of dance to communicate stories, messages, and feelings to an audience and develop their own expressive performance pieces. Students investigate career opportunities related to dance and professional show reel, a dance resume and artist statement detailing their experience as a dance artist. Students leave the Father Lacombe Dance Company with the knowledge, skills, and desire to join the wider community of dance artists in Calgary.
Executive Dance Company- our elite group of select dancers rehearse twice weekly and perform at our two in-house dance productions. They receive up to 5 extra credits in Dance Performance a year in addition to Dance 15, 25, and 35. We also perform at Danceworks, East Side Dance Festival, Dance YYC, and the YYC High School Hip Hop Battles. We are currently the Calgary High School Hip Hop Battle champions! We competed against 8 high school dance teams and were able to perform at the Calgary Hip Hop and Street Dance Festival and Dance at Noon at the University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts.

Father Lacombe is one of the founding schools that built the East Side Dance Festival from the ground up in 2013. Over 450 students from 20 Calgary High Schools receive professional dance training at the renowned Decidedly Jazz Danceworks Studios, perform on the University Theatre Stage, receive invaluable feedback on their work from Calgary's top local artists, and receive incredible opportunities, scholarships, and bursaries to join Calgary's best dance crews and continue their training after High School.
