Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
I hope this finds you and your family safe and healthy! My name is Ashley Michelin and I teach Biology CP and Biology Honors at Westlake High School! I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2020 - 2021 school year. While this isn’t the start to the school year anyone had hoped for, I look forward to working with you in what will nevertheless be a successful and exciting year in biology!
In this class, we will be exploring the relationships between living things and their environment. Students will be designing and conducting scientific investigations, constructing scientific arguments from evidence, and exploring the relationship between biology and other scientific disciplines. On this website, you will find some general information about the courses I teach. Digital copies of assignments and further instructions on each assignment can be found on Canvas.
As we begin the year remotely, you may understandably have questions and concerns regarding what learning will look like. As a district, we understand that everyone had different experiences with distance learning in the spring. Regardless of your previous experience, I want to assure you that the learning we have planned for this year has been completely restructured and is far more innovative and robust. When the pandemic first arose, we faced significant challenges in having to shift the delivery of instruction in a moment’s notice. Distance learning at the time was also limited by state guidelines. During the summer, however, we underwent extensive training to prepare a meaningfully improved and enhanced experience for all students.
I firmly believe that students receive the best education when parents, students, and teachers work together as a team. With that in mind, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns. I look forward to working with you to make the best of this year!
