Company Overview - Products/Services: Lexia designs, develops and researches adaptive programs to assess and develop literacy skills. Lexia also provides professional development services for K-12 schools and districts to support the use of their online programs and instructional materials.
Product Design - Problem Statement: Lexia PowerUp is designed to accelerate literacy gains for struggling and non-proficient readers in grades 6–12. PowerUp delivers rigorous reading content and skills instruction in an engaging, personalized approach with systematic instruction in Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension.

Evidence of Effectiveness:
As part of its commitment to hold itself accountable to educators and students nationwide, Lexia is maintaining its reputation for engaging in extensive and rigorous gold-standard evaluations of its most-recent program, Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®. PowerUp Literacy launched in January 2018 and Lexia has already fielded three studies that adhere to ESSA’s criteria for Strong research, and one study that meets criteria for Promising research. These studies met rigorous scientific standards, including the use of pre-testing/post-testing, standardized and norm-referenced reading tests, and stringent statistical data analysis, as well as control groups in the case of the Strong studies. Studies include low socio-economic and racially diverse samples and have been fielded in rural, suburban, and urban settings.
Product Integration - Weekly Usage Recommendations:
Student Usage: 85-145 minutes per week
Student Progression: Student progress is measured through the completion of program units in each of the three strands of the program - Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension. The amount of time it takes students to complete a unit will vary by strand. Typically units will take 2-10 minutes to complete, however, some Comprehension units may take as long as 10+ minutes given the variety of text provided. These times are based on observed trends, student progress is highly dependent on the developmental skills of the individual student and the supplemental direct instruction students receive outside the online scope and sequence.
Teacher Engagement: Teacher time commitments for data access and planning typically range from 10 to 30 minutes per week. Additional instructional time will be required to provide direct instruction as needed to individual students and small groups based upon their needs.
